coastal pro seats
I have started to install the coastal pro seat today. My initial feeling is that these are a great unit. When I have field tested the seat I shall make a report

They look better than the Ullmans I tried; they had very narrow topped cushions, felt like you were having a wedge shoved where the sun doesn't shine
I've also tried some that under compression moved too far backwards for my liking; I'll be interested to hear how you get on

I got the compact seat. I plan to mount the seat well forward to the steering wheel and quite high

Mick I have two coastal pro seats on my rib they work really well in the rough mine are set back 300mm from the consol I had my seat bases made to suit my 30in inside leg which then gives control with my legs as well I don't feel any difference when the seat goes right back on the driving position through the full movement all in a good seat with storage underneath my consol hinges back so I had removable pins in the back so the seat goes back to allow the steering wheel to drop down.
I will send you pics if you want to see the set up
Jeff

And there I was feeling special.....
Hopefully Coastal Pro will get back to me tomorrow with a price for the voyager (cp20xr) with winged back, dual colour upholstery in black and grey and base unit in white gel coat with grey side hatch and an internal base flange....
Really want two on the new boat, I think if building new they make sense as I'm only have 2 seats.
Will keep you posted.

here you go butty
the back pin on the ram pulls out hence the spring pin that allows the seat to fall right back the console then hinges back you just have to make sure of seat position before having the the base plates made & bolting up if using your original bases. when i had my original jockey bases they were 5 inches too high so got Craig to make me two ali ones i got them powder coated £60 for the pair, i think the bases were £150 each + vat.
i found using my old bases a nightmare Craig suggested bolting mast steps on the bases to take up the extra height they don't work as you are in a fixed position very uncomfortable now my feet are on the floor they work really well went round jura last year with RR 100 miles in the day no probs.
hope that helps
cheers jeff

Coastal pro compact seat
Attached are three bad quality photos of my seat. I have not yet tried it out ( The bueaty of small children) I mouned mine at a ht of 500mm. And am in the process of placing 60mm of rubber matting on either side of the consol to make an effective heigh of 440mm ( recommeneded ht). When I sea trial them I will let you know how they preform

First sea trial of Coastal pro seat.
I had my first outing with the coastal pro seat last week. I was west of Clare Island, Co Mayo Ireland (58 deg 48 min North, 9 deg 57 min west). The seas here are large, confused and choppy. The seat works. I need to stiffen it up a little as it bottomed out a few times. It saves you back and allows for higher speeds in such conditions circa 15- 16 kn where as before the seat circa 12-13 kn. The seat has an effective height of 440mm. I do find the seat a little wide. On the whole I believe it to be a good bit of Kit which saves jarring of the back on smaller boats such as mine I believe it to be very usefull. When I have more experance in choppy conditions I shall post more on this subject.

update report on coastal pro seat in a small rib.
I used the Coastal pro seat in anger yesterday when running from Westport to Clare Island. I had the smallest rib there, as most on them were 6 m to 7.4 meter (7m plus red bay, 6.4 or 6.5 red bay, 6 m osprey, a large white rib (type unknown) and a SR 5.4 with a yam 90 two stroke which had electrical failure in Clare Island). I was running at between 20 - 26 kn in a f4 - f5 wind reducing to 18 kn with a wind against tide suitation on the way out of Westport. I can say once the seats have been adjusted to you weight they are great. I also have 60mm of rubber grass matting on the deck which is also an unbelievable help when running fast in rough conditions. There is no way I would have been able to keep with the larger ribs without the shock mitigation systems seat and matting. The matting is cheap and the seat was expensive but in my case worth the money.
Maybe if I was a little more gentle on the loud stick my gear box problems would not have occured, however those videos of MattH and thunderstruck kept going through my head :0
