Console layout

Hi

The new build of my Ribcraft 6.8 is progressing slowly (particially because of me adding bits and pieces).

I like to install 2x VHF units and the biggest plotter possible. I am now looking for sample console layouts and advice. Any help is apriciated.

Regards

Q.

Hi Martini

Raymarine C120W. But I think it is to high. If this wil not fit I will go for the next best size.

Regards

I couldn't fit an E120 on my (Ribcraft) console so I went for 2 E80s, these are classics, not the widescreens. Why 2 VHF? I have a fixed VHF & a handheld in the grab bag.

Here's the layout of the console on my 6.8. The unit is a Raymarine E80 and I have it above the steering wheel with the VHF on the left. The other screen you can see above the VHF is a McMurdo Navtex.

Knowing what I know now, I would have gone Lowrance.

You can fit quite a bit even on a single console, here's mine. Could have fitted a Lowrance HDS7 in the middle I think, if I hadn't left the space for something else, as the Lowrance sets are wider and not as tall as Garmin. Knowing what I now want (structure scan) I wish that's what I'd done...

I also have a VHF handheld as the backup, number 2 in the boat is not much use if your electrics die or you are in the water

Here's ours, Lowrance HDS7 above wheel with space reserved for an HDS8 or 10 on port side at the navigators position, not sure if it's better where radio is at present or above. Not got the cash at present so it's all academic. We have one fixed vhf set, one in a grab bag and I usually take my own in a bag on my lifejacket, unless it's a full on commercial boat and you really need two vhf sets you'll tie up valuable space. Consoles seem large but arent, plan carefully and take life size templates to the console, our HDS7 only just fits top mounting area.
