I could just about lift a 76' Johnson 50hp off of my old mans boat at age 16. . So, yes you should be able.

doubt it. I can just lift my 20HP Yamaha on and off the transom on my own. It weighs 50kg. I'm not Geoff Capes, but I doubt I could manage anything bigger. Presumably a 50HP would be at least doublt the weight. My Yam is fairly new, and I would guess older engines were heavier.

I cannot lift my 2cylinder 2 stroke 40HP on my own, took two of us and even then it was heavy. Your Mercury blue band is a 4cylinder I believe, and they are heavy, probably best to get someone to help you, don't want to hurt your back. They are good engines by the way, mate of mine had one and they purr.

it's no probelm I can do it and i am nearly old. protect your car in case any fluids leak out. another hint it's a lot less painful if it clips your shins with the prop off and some bubble rap around the hub. Dont put the skeg on your foot either

No offence taken Neal, I genuinly cannot lift my 40HP on my own. I guess the legend that is Rogue Wave must be a muscle man if he can lift a 50hp on his own, like a human searider

well there is no point being my shape and not strong
but I didn't mean I can lift it over my head I meant I can shift it. The comment about not putting it on your foot might give you a clue about how high it goes. A decent understanding of fulcrums and pivot points makes it easier to shift things around, as Euclid said 'Give me a lever and I will move the world' (I know it was attributed to Archimedes) but David Manning was there at the time and he says it was Euclid
My son can lift an Optimax up.....I just hate arguing with him!

its one thing to be able to lift something and move it around carefully and not damage it or the surroundings but another to move something that is quite a bit heavier and not be sure if you will damage it, the surroundings (ie your car ) or damage you.
would suggest you take someone with you, or when you are there look around for someone to give you a hand.
in the summer i leave the sib inflated and put in on the roof of the landy, when at the beach i always look around for someone to help lift it off the roof, it is not heavy but want to lift it vertically off the car so not to scratch the car. i always look for someone tall and reasonably strong rather than a shorty who looks like he has a bad back.
noone has declined yet!! in fact choose someone who is there with their bird and they pump up 3 chest sizes, the sib looks heavier than it actually is so they usually look quite chuffed with themselves...
have a yam 15 that weighs around 37 kg which is fine for moving around on your own but you dont want to carry it far, 50kg is ok for short distance, 60kg plus is getting a real handful

Yep. I'm not a small bloke (6'3" and 18 stone)and I can lift/carry my 50 mercury around on my own-but removing/fitting it I always get someone to help me to minimise the risk of damaging anything as there's not a lot of room to move when you're taking it off a transom or putting it in a car. You're awfully close to the tubes when removing it from the transom and it wouldn't take much to slip, drop it and ruin your whole rig.
TIP:- It's a lot easier to remove the engine if you gently lift it up with a trolleyjack under the skeg til the clamp screws are clear of your transom.
They are substantially heavier than your 25 mike-quite possibly twice the weight. I had a 25 Johnson and could carry that one-handed-I used to take it off the boat when not in use it was so easy to move around.

Being from Pontypool, I think you'll be fine. I've lugged a 65 Soozook (100kg+) around on my own and I'm from Llanelli!
Just remember they're top heavy and as Rogue says, they can hurt your foot!
To get it into your car, you may need someone on hand. I've used a sheet of plywood to slide it on.
Good luck
