Excuse me for my ignorance, but if the RYA are such a problem, why involve them at all, just tell them you dont need them and they can go back to playing with sticks and rags!

It would be useful if you found out the true story before speculation on forum's. But hey, that probably is not so interesting...! You do the searches for sponsor reactions...

My I nformation comes straight from the horses mouth so to speak. I've also been on the receiving end of the RYA and there silly rules. I will start an open discussion about my trails and tribulations if you want

I understood as of this afternoon that Monaco will not allow the race to finish there.
Also that UK to Biarritz is being mooted as a shorter race.
This was from behind closed doors a few miles away from the boatshow from a respected source.
Any ideas?

If you've got better information maybe you'd like to share it?

You definitely need to get a better source! To my knowledge Biarritz has never been mentioned (by the organisers), and as far as I know the race isn't leaving the English Channel - Of course I've been wrong before but then again I am an entrant in the race and in regular contact with the organising team.

AndrewN - I have never seen any sponsor publicise a reaction anywhere so would be interested to hear what they might have to say? Event sponsors or entrant sponsors?

Good morning all. Thick snow here. Looks very nice. Anyway to business. I'm going back to the first post on this thread. Safety boat cover. The power that are say we can't race without boat cover. They want us to volunteer for nought yet they charge us a fortune for our training. Can anyone tell me how this works

In answer to your question , it does not work as proven by the mess caused on this planned race

Biffer - There is so little money in the sport the race organisers need volunteers to act as safety boats - it's the only way they can hold a race. You don't need training to be a safety boat as far as I know?

So what is this course they charge for and give you a certificate. Sorry Cookee RYA cant have it both ways. Yes the sport is badly funded yet darts gets stupid fees on advertising and everyone attends(cant understand it)

Not sure that has anything to do with powerboat racing:
Quote:
Basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course and the course content: Preparation, boat handling, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, kayak or canoe rescue (can be covered as theory), towing, end-of-day procedures, safety, suitability of craft, local factors, communication, rescuing other water users
I have honestly never seen any powerboat race organiser insist on a safety boat skipper having a ticket to do the job. I think sailing and yacht clubs might require it if they use the club boats?

Not sure what darts has got to do with anything? Yes many sports get more money that powerboat racing - even yacht racing is much better funded with huge sponsors but they are in the Olympics. Unless you have a brilliant idea to change that then we have to man up and get on with it and do the best with what we've got and stop wingeing!
