Crazy idea the whole coast of wales

So I have a big birthday coming up, no idea what I want to do, Vegas was the plan but covid scuppered that! Thinking of doing the entire Welsh coast? Dee to Severn border to border the long way round?

Anyone done it, easy in a week? Refuelling and overnighting, carrying fresh water, fuel and food along with gear needed are my big concerns at this point. Well and cost

150 miles a day seems feasaible in good weather 60-100 in so so bad none in bad weather……

Beach hoping needed support crew with hundreds of litres of fuel to beaches in areas that aren’t easily accessible

And another nutter or 2 to do it with

This is just my opinion & nothing else, but I think it would be a terrible waste of time & fuel. Wales has some stunning boating areas, & to fly through it without seeing it would be a crime. Like I said, fwiw it’s just my opinion & nowt else.

Others have kayaked around the whole coast of the uk so anything is possible! Just needs some careful planning: consumables; escape routes; contingencies; back up; stop points; when; weather; etc.

Life is too short not too take on a challenge and you can always note good points and go back.

Only my opinion!

Using my distance estimator looks like 600 ish miles including Anglesey so 100 miles a day doable in a week of good weather, fuel and stopover points are the issues along with the weather.

Plan, plan again and then re plan! Think of what could go wrong and x2 and you will be prepared. Goes without saying, make sure outboards are fully serviced and spares carried to effect repairs en route although if in a group, safety in numbers applies. Electronics are good but not fail safe: basic compass skills and the ability to read charts would be my default.

Adventure is good for the soul and for me, part of it is in the planning and prep. I speak not from water based experience (although it is on my bucket list) but having planned and led overland and underground escapades…

I think PD’s point was probably that to do the whole of Wales in a week you have to press on for most of it, which for the prettier bits might feel like a rush. I feel the same every time someone suggests going round Britain - they will sail through the west coast of Scotland and not have time to see half of it then spend the same amount of time on less interesting North Sea passages. Sod’s law if you have a fixed time and plan the spectacular bits will be on the crap weather days.

Of course if you really want to tick it off to say you’ve done it - our old man attitude won’t put you off!

Love the idea (I'd be interested next year). But if you're doing it this year, would be happy to help as ground crew in north west (say Porthmadog to Conwy)

Looks like I have left it a little late to arrange for my actual birthday but will consider planning for next year I think. Refuelling points will need some thought I recon
