Crew Safe Baltic Hybrid 220

Hi, I’m looking at buying a new life jacket or decent buoyancy aid for fishing. Whilst doing the research I’ve come across the above Baltic one. It looks something similar to what the rnli use. My question is has anyone got these and what are your thoughts.

Hi

They do give lots of buoyancy and plenty of lift, but for me they are too bulky for regular rib use.

I prefer the KRU Sports that are less bulky and still gives plenty of support in the water.

Thanks Andy, I was just thinking of trying to get the best of both worlds really, a foam buoyancy and inflatable life jacket. I do already have a good auto this being Ergofit 190. However this has been known to go off of its own accord. Especially when launching and retrieving. I also thought of just the foam ones that the kayakers use. I’m never really much more than 5-6 miles from one of a couple of rnli stations so anything to keep me floating should the worst happen.

Include in the 'worst happen' going into the water unconscious.
Proper lifejacket should turn you the right way up.

Aside from sea fishing I also do a lot of trout fly fishing on the midlands reservoirs & lifejackets have been mandatory for some years.
If you haven't got one they are provided & must be worn.
I wear my own (Lalizas Sigma) which is much the same as the provided ones & apart from a bit of chafing on the back of my neck they don't get in the way.

If yours keeps going off 'of its own accord' then I'd suggest a change in how you do things.

Not wearing it during launch & retrieve should help.

How deep in the water are you going when launching and recovering? I try & avoid getting my feet wet! We have the same jackets & never had one go off unexpectedly in many years even in realy wet conditions, you must be getting severely wet if its going off of its own accord

I think it could be the fact that it is the pellet type of auto as opposed to the hammer version. It’s also activated whilst been left in a cabin in one of my previous boats. It seems not a lot of damp will set it off. As said yes I could take it off whilst launching and retrieving I guess that would eliminate most of the chances of it getting damp. I think I’ll do a bit more research into my next life jacket be it auto (hammer) manual or the hybrid.

Ours are the pellet type too & we have had two go off, one when left in a damp locker one one when our son left is in a damp holdall Both our own fault realy. Never had one go off with rain or spray
