Looks like the boat was overloaded. Then the wave behind the boat pushed the bow down under the surface.

The captain is absolute not a rocket scientist. No west, and he keeps his lovely red jacket on when in the water. Its like swimming in a plastic bag.

Scary - too fine a bow and no reserve of bouyancy...?

My inherited boat is a traditional design, fibreglass, open fishing boat. Despite her age, she has full length bouyancy tanks down both sides, but more importantly a flared bow which would lift in a summer thermal...

With a following sea I'd be much more concerned about loosing helm control or getting swamped from behind
