Believe it or not it was a Coxswain from Poole showing them how to launch properly!

YIK if it was pointing the other way round in the cradle at launch perhaps his chances would have been better That said .. he got it off the beach all credit to him but I think he could have turned it around a little sooner once he was under way in reverse

I think he was waiting till he got out of the worst of the surf cos if he tried to turn round where he was chances are he may have been rolled by the breakers, not good with the folk on deck, continuing the way he was going was probably the safest thing to do in that situation

I believe they were actually on a rescue, if not they would have simply recovered the boat.

Its very easily done, when we launch (the same boat and same carriage) the stern of the hull often hits the sea bed as it drops of the trailer.

It was just what we got told on station?

The reason he continued stern first for so long was he didn't know if the gearboxes were damaged, hence get into clearish water and find out.

when he first launched would you say that he wasnt far enough in the water when he was released ?

and as such the props couldnt bite quick enough in clear water as was mentioned they are in "tunnels" if all you have comming through the tunnels is fast flowing airiated water then you aint going to get any grip and as such you will struggle with thrust

the boat was at aldborugh ,from what i was told at an rnli training day one of the fall ropes got fast around the prop pulling the boat to starboard before the rope cutter cut through ,the cox sent the crew forward to lessen the weight at the stern and he just bulldozed it off the beach into clear water ,its now known at mersey class stations as doing an aldborough .so if the cox shouts aldborough the crew know what to do .
