It was the Harbour Master who kept on telling me to slow down and then speed up all the time. Nothing I could do about that...I wanted to go full whack, but that would of course have left you all behind (apart from the blade runner)

How about Verytricky? I joined at about the same time. I went on the rally. I had an EXCELLENT time. Ms Tricky navigated, I drove.

We did not cross to Deauville, we crossed Ramsgate to Bologne
Crossing was about 25 minutes for myself.
Sea state 1 to 2.

First boat 'home' in Deuville was myself - but it is not a race, it is a rally. The event is the object, not the placings. I received no prize or mention for finishing first.

As for the 'chelsea babe' this could have been one of several girls who came accross in some ribs. They proberbly would not know what an SSR is, or the actual route, or their speed. The certainly would not know the sea state!

But they damn well enjoyed themselves. The spirit amongst the group was very very excellent. I will definately do this event next year, as will others who 'almost' did it this year..

Next year there will be some improvements in the safety organisation I am sure.

*BUT* the event itself was really excellent!

The guys organising are quite willing to learn and take advice, and after all - the backers were motor car enthusiasts, and the organisers were novice boaters.

p.s. I am unaware of any boat not completing the course.

Are you jealous that you werent on the rally? oh poor didums!!!

It was the best weekend! Great weather great company a good route all in all the best boating weekend i've ever had!

There was alot of swapping about of crew in boats and alot of very good team spirit!

Watch this space as channel 4 are doing a piece about it and there will be some very big improvements for next year!!!!

Hopefully, this will include some properly equipped boats with inflated tubes, preclude dickheads standing on hardboat foredecks at speed, and safe storage of extra fuel.

Hard 1 and Jono what are your problems!

No boats had fuel problems there were plenty of places to stop and due the fact it was a RALLY should anyone have had any problems there were buddy boats there to help out! as ourselves and the Chelsea babes were!!

Lifejackets were worn throughout by all! the only 1 time there wasnt as you have seen in earlier post is because we had to pick up some journalists from the pier and give them our life jackets! that was for 10 mins and at no more than 8 knotts!!

We have already been in talks with some large boat manufacturers and dealers for next years rally!

so why not stop whinging, put yur hand in your pocket and see just how good this rally is!!!!!

Well, it’s finally happened!

We are proud to announce the biggest non-event ever will be held next year. Now is your chance to live it up with the rich and famous… well .... some people you may have heard of who are related to someone who did something good. When I say related, obviously I don’t mean directly related. Look! They once went out with someone who slept with the servant of a chap who “did something good”.. Is that near enough? No matter.. it will be a very Glitzy event with people "helicoptering" in from all over the World to the launch party…when I say “helicoptering” obviously I don’t mean that literally… the number 9 bus stop is directly outside our venue for easy access.
It will be your chance to leave your boring little lives and join us smug bastards in a place where the poor people can’t get. Actually, being rich is not necessary, as long as your father was a Colonel and your mother was a horse. All true blue bloods will have their fees refunded.
The challenge will be awesome! We will set off from the River Severn (just above the old vinegar factory at Stourport) and make our way majestically down river under the adoring gaze of the on looking peasants before we burst out into the open, but ever so slightly brown, waters of the Bristol Channel. From here we will race headlong to Weston Super Mare where we will throw another extravagant party at Mrs Muffin’s Tea-rooms on the promenade. Expect it to be a wild night of mixing with the stars, debauchery and fish suppers.
The following day we will return. Unfortunately, we will have run out of funds by then so you’ll be on your own. We recommend you “buddy” up with a fellow competitor (in case of attack by those scurvy Weston pirates).
The price for this premiere event will be fifty quid. I’m sorry we can’t do it for any less….I mean do you know how much Pomagne costs now? For this you’ll get a T-shirt, a safety boat..when I say safety boat, I mean we’re gonna hire one of them RIB things from a reputable charter company… cause they must be safe, mustn’t they? You’ll also get to have the whole event filmed by a chap who reckons he can borrow his dad’s balloon for the day.
Imagine the scene if you will. Literally several high performance craft with many horsepower between them bucking like wild horses as they tear their way down the River. Minding to keep to the 6-knot speed limit of course. Isn’t that alone worth the entry fee?

What E-mails? Bitter? Maybe, but bloody angry, definitely. If you find Rupert's antics amusing, then that's your prerogative. Personally, I find lying, cruelty and failing to reimburse a customer for his losses, whilst portraying the "high life" abhorrent... maybe it's just me.
