In the Uk you dont need anything- but go to france and if the gendarmes arn't in a particular good mood - you could end up with the boat being confiscated. I am sure the organisers informed you of all this?. Deauville is mainly a yachting fraternity and they do not like 2000 hp boats tearing into their tranquility.
In fact Jono, I think we should ask the French authorities to check every boat... thoroughly
The above should have been told to you by your safety operator.
sincerely

Eupa,
You are the numero uno Traffic Warden for sure. You appear to live in Belgium so red tape probably comes naturally to you.
Leave them alone and let them have fun. Go and issue a few parking tickets.

Deaville Rally overtakes banana shark as rib.net racing special
My Dear Comrades,
I have been enjoying the banter so much recently that I failed to spot that Deauville Rally is now the most popular thread on rib racing. Clearly as everyone else has been enjoying the banter so much also I have been urging my fellow competitors to get involved and meet some like minded friends and share in the debate. After all thats what this is all about n'est ce pas?
The countdown is ticking and I have been making private arrangements for an unbiased member of rib.net to follow us around and report back to you on rib.net around the clock so you wont miss out on any of the action. We do not want to let you know which one of you it is so we will refer to you simply as Mr Rib.net however you can be assured that he will be inspecting VHF certificates, CE markings and anything else which might raise a few eyebrows back at rib.net HQ. Can I buy any rib.net merchandise as we could do with a few caps and T-shirts as prizes for say the best kept documentation folder or the person who uses his ICOM radio with the best pirates accent. The possibilities are endless.
As you know gumball issue some Top Trumps Cards and many of you will be intrigued to learn that we are doing the same. Obviously there will be categories like horsepower of engine and max. speed, gumball factor etc
but we also want to include things like Health and Safety Factor etc which will make them particularly appealing!
Keep up the banter
Yours aye
The Spectre of Defeat II

this is so totally patehitc, there are clearly two types of people that are here. One lot seems to be enjoying the prospect of a great rally and the other are a bunch of Belgian, waffle munching (might I say that they talk a lof ot waffle) traffic wardens.
The people that seem to get heated up are IT nerds that wonder about VB code and people that get sexual hump with the dynamics of a VHF radio. I really do wonder why they are IT geeks and traffic wardens...
This is why ribbing is such a clique sport, because joe bloggs off he street has to put up with a bunch of technophobes when actually all there is to a rib is a throttle and a steering wheel...why make it complicated?
As regards to safety, well as any H&S person would tell you, it's nothing more than common sense and reducing the risk of danger. It requires free thinking that allows you to use your head and not the manual to make deicisions!!
As for the deauville rally...rock on...and there is one great thing about the open water far away from the traffic wardens...there is no speed limit

I always wonder why people like Eupa exist.
Firstly he wants to drive his boat across the bows of the competitors, then he starts spouting on about rules of the road in the channel wanting competitors boats to "give way" to him....now he wants to start phoning up the French authorities to try and get them to conviscate the boats.
Eupa, you may have a problem with the organisers, but why do you also have such a problem with the people taking part as it is their fun you are attempting to ruin.
You are not taking part in this event, it is not roaring past you doorstep (i presume), so stop interfering.
You are evidently jealous that others are going to have fun on their boats.
Get over it.....

"Heated up", I'd say that was more you!! I'm somewhat surprised that you even bother to post on a forum that isn't likely to supply any people for the cruise. Unless of course you enjoy the banter or you are getting "heated", as you say.
As you mention VB code, it was me that posted it to defuse the situation. In case you can't understand a joke, it was a JOKE
Also as you are quoting me in your post, if you bothered to read my couple of posts you would see that I was actually unhappy with some of the RibNet posts and not joining in the "have a go" bandwagon.
I think you will find most people here wish you the best of luck as I do.
In summary "get a grip"
Mark

what a wonderful way to pass a Saturday afternoon. Me? a traffic warden, that sounds a good idea - give everybody a ticket, Waffles -dont eat fats. VB code pretty cool stuff-and if you knew a little of VBA you would have seen I was taking the piss.Driving my boat across your bows - what a waste of gas.
The only thing I am concerned about, is that you state in the application form that you can get your PB2 cert in. half a day. This is misleading and an insult to the RYA who are trying to apply some kind of discipline to the sport.
I suppose proceeds are going to Charity?

Charity - why not?
Are there any rib.net preferred charities ? Or shall we stick to the good old RNLI?

Rib.net man spotted in Cowes
I have just had feedback from the gumball crew in Cowes today recruiting amongst the Cowes Classic that rib.net man has been spotted in Cowes and we hope to bring you some photos tomorrow.
Sarah Donahue a regular of the gumball car rallies has also just agreed to do some briefings at the start and go in the Pace boat!
As ex. James Bond stunt woman she is a perfect choice to literally set the Thames alight!
Now you certainly dont get that on the usual rib.net rally!

It would be preferable to start saving some kids in Niger. But this gets covered by NGO's- and I have as much faith in the NGO's as I would have in James Bond!!!. Why doesnt wonder women -instead of setting the Thames alight , set people's consciencses alight in Northern Europe as regards the plight of the other 90% of the world stuck in povety. Just do the calculation - the gas you are going to use could feed a lot of people... and I dont mean doing a Bob Geldorf.
