Dell Quay Dory recovered by Police
From: Oliver, Tristan <Tristan.Oliver@dorset.pnn.police.uk>
Date: Monday, June 6, 2011 8:29:06 AM GMT+0100
Subject: Urgent Dorset Police Marine Section Request
Dorset police have arrested a male in possession of a :
Dell Quay Dory 13 boat on FLETCHER single axled trailer with a brand new looking EVINRUDE engine fitted which was being towed by a van on false number plates at 2am in Christchurch a few days ago
The boat is almost certainly stolen from the Dorset Area, possibly Christchurch or Poole area's. Serial numbers etc are on the engine.
We really need to find out where this boat comes from and who owns it.
Please circulate far and wide to help us try and find the loser as soon as possible please.
Any information, please contact Dorset Police on 01202 222222 and quote crime number C:11 :24215
This is a perfect example where property marking such as SelectaDNA could have been used, and we would now be contacting the owner to inform them that a person has been arrested with their boat!
Regards
APS Tristan Oliver

Interesting that they say SelectaDNA would help them find the owner. Do we imagine that the boat either had no marking on it or that the light fingered van driver had removed them?
I note that the SelectaDNA kit for marking lots of items with the same code is very well priced, possibly a chance here to have a RIB.net group marking that costs a few quid and gets the Police close enough to have a Moderator post a notice, maybe even recognise the user's boat.

Looks like the same sort of stuff as "smart water", there have been a number of house burglaries in my Village so the police offered anyone who wanted one a free kit, just fill in your name and address on the form send it off post paid and the community support officer brings it out and shows you how to use it etc
So when said officer turned up I asked her how many people had signed up, just you and the church warden was her answer, they had one hundred kits to give away
Best of luck
Jim

Poor guy was probably hoping to use the insurance money to buy something decent and then the cops go and find it! Although presumably since the police seem to have no idea who it belongs to, its not actually been reported stolen (there can't be that many Dory's nicked) - perhaps he was too embarrased to report it

The biggest joke is that unless they can prove he nicked it then they will give it back to him!

Got mine from here. Just be aware that there is a TK102 & a TK102-2, the latter being the new model.
It checks out on the Xexun website as genuine. It works fine, but for some reason it won't work when it's been plugged into the hardwire charger for about 6hours. I'm still trying to bottom that one out. The hardwire kit is from a different seller (Xexun don't sell them) so it might be incompatible. Apart from that it works perfectly. I've got it linked to this site & it works a treat. I've put an Orange sim card in it with a tenner of credit & I still have about 6quid left after a month of playing around with it.

Hi,
Surely in this installation, it needs to be plugged into the charger 24/7??
Is this a malfunction or a limitation??
I can't see how it could be used with this limitation??
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Hi Tony, I think it's a malfunction of the hardwired charger. The tracker itself has an internal rechargeable battery which runs the unit for about 3 days. If I plug the tracker into its own mains charger & leave it on the kitchen windowsill with decent GPS & phone reception it's fine. If I put the tracker in the boat under the barn with poor gps & phone reception, it still works. However, if I plug it into the hardwired charger (on the boat) it stops respoding after about 6 hours & the LED says that it has no SIM card fitted, If I reboot the tracker & unplug the hardwire charger, it starts to work. I'm leaning towards a dodgy charger, which I bought from a 3rd party.

Mine has been running for 5 months off the boats main battery . No noticable effect on the main battery, but the hardwired supply can come unplugged after some ' exciting boating'......
Generally if doesn't respond , I panic , jump in the car to find the plug 1/8 inch out of the unit ....of course its 3 days after I used it as thats how long the internal battery lasts!

Yes, it does sound like a charger issue.
We are all being a bit unfair here and waiting for you to sort your out so we don't have the bother!
Thank you!
Tony.

Perhaps they've stopped selling them now but my charger came direct fron Xenun with the tracker.
To avoid the charging plug coming out if the going gets lumpy I've bluetacked the usb connector to the tracker body. Still there after nearly two years :-)

Direct from Xenon when I got the tracker. The areas police I do think do a good job. 1st rate in fact when I was a 'victim' of marine crime .
