Surely the Tate would prefer the messy, stained jumble of the 'before' motor - maybe scatter a few fag butts and empty oil bottles around for good effect?

Out of interest, do you think they are very important? I think they also have the same brace for the 6LP, which wasn't fitted on my Ribtec when I bought it. I debated finding one as the likes of Hot Lemon had them fitted for extra rigidity, but decided for my use I'd probably be fine without as I wasn't exactly racing and really pushing things to the extreme!

It's a reasonably common fault to see 6lp's with cracked blocks or bolt bosses pulled off where the engine mounts bolt on. The weight of the engine coming down as the boat slams pulls the block outwards & cracks the lower section of the crankcase or pulls lumps off the cast. To cure the issue yanmar designed a heavy cast bracket to tie the two mounting brackets together to prevent it.
The heavy used ribs like hot lemon run with a completely redesigned engine mounting system fabricated from ally & picking up on extra holes in the block to prevent the issue. I've recently removed 2 engines from a scorpion sting that broke 3 engines in its early days until scorpion retro fitted the upgraded mounting system. I believe they are made by pascoe but will be mega expensive & involves relocating several components to make them fit. Hopefully I can find the yanmar Brace which should work for me

That will be my fall back if I cant find one but it's quite a hefty cast piece & it would be far easier if I can find the right bracket to bolt straight on
Hows your boat coming along any luck with it?

I was set to pull the outboard off this Christmas and change the swivel tube and bushes etc, but I came down with Covid on Boxing day and have been flat on my back since.

Very interesting, many thanks Ken - if I have the fortunate luck to own another 6LP-powered RIB in the future I'll check for the brace.

That's a shame on the bright side the weather has been pants for doing anything outside.

Another 2 washing lines of parts & brackets sprayed ready to bolt on, this repaint has got out of hand🤣🤣🤣
Several parts I've painted were never painted from new as they are hidden but these engines are bad for rust from the start & I hate rusty stains in the bilge. What seems to happen with ribs is the engines get condensation on them which never dries out in the small engine bay & the result is rusty drips hopefully painting the flywheel & drive coupling will avoid that
I can get it built together now & go for a start up soon hopefully

It's done with spray guns suction gun for the primers & gravity feed hvlp for the basecoat & eventual laquer,. Theres 6 coats in each item 2 coats of 2 pack etch primer, 2 coats of high build 2 pack primer & 2 coats of polyester basecoat. Once the engine is assembled I'll give everything a final coat of basecoat & 2 pack laquer to seal all the fasteners etc.
By the time I'm done I'll have used more paint products that I'd have used to respray a car & taken way more time.
Hopefully it will resist corrosion better than new as the original paintwork on them is woeful, often showing signs of rust before coming out of the crate when new.

Once the paint’s cured, I’d give all the hidden away bits a spray with this.

Finally got to spray the final coat of basecoat & lacquer the engine to put a shine on it, still a few bits to bolt on but I wanted to get as much of the engine coated in lacquer as possible . Time to get the wiring on & start it up next. Only 3 months later than I wanted but hey ho its getting there
