Not the 96 one but I did take part in the 1991 event.Slightly different in as much as we raced Paul Davey across to Alderney You must remember that the RYA and other clubs did not like / accept that there was something coming along which would change the face of powerboat racing. Now, if it wasnt for the BIBOA Rib fleet there would not be much of a race fleet and would proberbly have folded.Alan P

Allan P,
In my experience the RYA don't like anything that wasn't thier idea! that is, until it's a success, then they want to take over completely!

I never did understand why a windsurfing club (to judge by their magazine, anyway) was interested in powerboats in the first place!

I was a member of the RYA for two separate years. They have a scheme where if you want a certificate it's cheaper to join for a year and get it "free" than it is to just pay for it.
So I joined when i wanted an ICC, and again when I wanted my instructor's certificate.
They obviously hope that people will continue their subscriptions, but as the only "benefit" seemed to be a monthly magazine mainly devoted to windsurfing and dinghy racing, I didn't really see the point.

I see,
well I geuss I have to whatch what I say, now that the PB manager is one of you lot! but his predicessor (did I spell that right?) was a right t****r! and still is as far as i'm concerned, I know of plenty of racers who gave up racing because they couldn't be botherd to fight against the system anymore!( or went to "rib" because of the lower cost's and huge reduction in red tape nonsense, plus proper offshore courses) (offshore is turning into OCR)
