Evening all,
Northern Exposure Rescue is running a VHF course for members next Sunday at South Mimms Premier Inn at the M25/M1 Junction. We would like to offer it to
RIBnet members so we can keep the prices down for everybody!
Introduction -
This course starts by looking at the practical operation of a standard Marine VHF, Channel usage, Distress/Urgency/Safety and routine voice procedures. It then goes on to look at the GMDSS scheme including the practical use of DSC equipment. You can find further information here;
Marine Radio (SRC) | Specialist Short Courses | Courses | Learning | Courses & Training | RYA
Uses -
On successful completion you will be awarded a licence allowing you to legally operate a VHF/DSC radio. Unlike some schools who use computer simulators, we will be using real Icom & Silva Radios for training. It is illegal to operate a VHF radio without a licence and people supporting events need to hold a VHF licence in accordance with the NER code of conduct.
Examination -
At the end of the course there is a mandatory short test for which there is a separate £30 exam fee payable directly to the RYA on the day. You will need to bring one passport sized photo with you on the day of the course.
Cost -
As with all NER Training we are only covering our costs to make it as accessible as possible. The price to us varies depending on numbers as follows:
If 6 people on the course - £120 each
If 7 people on the course - £111 each
If 8 people on the course - £103 each
If 9 people on the course - £96 each
If 10 people on the course - £90 each
If 11 people on the course - £83 each
If 12 people on the course - £78 each
PLUS the £30 RYA exam fee.
Please note it is our intention to fill every space on this course to keep the costs as low as possible.
Training Provider and Venue -
Training will be delivered at South Mims Premier Inn between 0900 and 1700. Food is available to purchase in the hotel bar and covers a wide range of dietary requirements.
How to enrol -
If you would like to attend the course please send an email to
chris@northernexposurerescue.org.uk. As usual places will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. We intend to fill all 12 places to keep the cost as low as possible.
Payment –
Payment of the course cost is due by cash or cheque on the day. No payment = no course! Please note the RYA exam fee is due separately on the day to the instructor.
Many thanks,
Chris
