DIY Tower Speakers

I decided to improve my sound system on my RIB for the new season, My current setup is a Fusion marine radio with wired remote and 4 150watt speakers. I decided to add a tower speaker to my setup and started looking online. I found some housing units for €150+ online but was going to add up after buying a set of speakers to fit aswell it was looking at €300ish for two speakers. I started to think of other ways to do this when I came up with a great idea.

First I got a set of stainless 4x4 spots (off my brother...free!)

I took the lamps apart just keeping the housing and then made a marine ply "washer" which allowed me to screw the speaker in the housing.

after the housing was screwed together and front secured in place,I ran the cables and wired it up

the lamps are secured with heavy duty bolts, I drilled out the a-frame and mounted the speakers in position.

the speakers I used where two 7" fusion speakers and they give some sound! can be heard clearly even at 46kts and over the roar of a 150hp Yamaha.

set of tower speakers for €125! and they look great

So do I but one of the attractions of the sea is, well, the sea. The sound of the wind, water, birds, silence, engine all combined to make their own music
