Does it weaken your console

I have a fiberglass console on my 4.5 m rib and I want to cut in a hatch to create a storage area. Provided I make sure I keep away from the corners by an inch or so I was wondering if this will weaken my console. The type of hatch I have in mind is like this one

Should be fine, the hatch your looking at has rounded corners which keeps it strong and will probably have a frame. Use plenty of sealer to ‘bond’ as well as the screws and it will be as good as new. Assuming your placement doesn’t cut through any braces.

Denis if you can afford it go for a better hatch i have one of those my second, the first snapped around the flange they are ok but not for long life.ABS is better than these plastic ones. i use bolts and sealer makes it strong no probs with console

Many thanks for that advice. That link was so people can see the sort of hatch I intend. Yes a better one would be good
