So how exactly are you going to get out of this? Surely the chap can find the real owner, offer him 40k for his boat worth what, 14/15k? Then pocked 135k....

I can't work out which bit of that I think is funnier:

- you think the scammer had £40k to take a punt on the boat in the hope he could enforce the sale
- you think the original owner who's just been taken a bit advantage of is going to help the scammer - even for a wodge of cash
- you think that someone would attempt to enforce a scam contract which would almost certainly be easy to prove he didn't own the boat at the time of the sale
- or you think the boat might be worth £15k!

Interesting what ebay's official line on this would be. Is it like a burglar suing for being clobbered over the head?

You guys were just making sure no-one could be scammed by it by making sure you won the auction...

Ebay needs to get faster at reviewing listings

Just email the scammer and tell him you want it shipped to your African brother, but first he needs to send you all his banks details, passport number, and mothers maiden name.

See how that makes him feel.

Me too, on boatsandoutboards.co.uk

when I asked to view I got some story about being scared to have people come to the house after last time etc etc etc.

The name I got was Beth Moore with an email address of bethmoore@skyprivacy.org.

I reported it to the police and boats and outboards.

I guess it is true, if it looks too good to be true it is...

- This is a flaw I agree..
- How much would it take to buy your morals then eh? 75k would buy you a pretty nice second hand 11m Redbay...
- Is this a condition of ebay sale? That you must own the item before you list it? Agreed it would seem sensible but surely car dealerships etc would be on dodgy ground here, listing things they don't actually own?
- Ok, 11/12 maybe but no less than that. 5.6m (ok...6m..) boat, not huge hours, good condition, desirable motor...?

I can't be bought I am afraid. I suspect most people would treat anyone offering them way over the odds for a boat with suspicion, especially if said buyer had just before been selling the same boat without permission.

Some highlights:

While using eBay sites, services, applications and tools, you will not:
  • breach any laws, third party rights or our policies;
  • use our sites, services, applications or tools if you are not able to form legally binding contracts (for example if you are under 18), or are
  • fail to deliver items purchased from you, unless the buyer fails to meet the posted terms, or you cannot contact the buyer;
  • post false, inaccurate, misleading, defamatory, or libellous content;
  • copy, modify, or distribute rights or content from our sites, services, applications or tools or eBay's copyrights and trademarks;
  • sell any counterfeit items or otherwise infringe the copyright, trademark or other rights of third parties.

And they are just in the first page!

Not sure why you think dealers don't own the cars they sell?

- Ok, 11/12 maybe but no less than that. 5.6m (ok...6m..) boat, not huge hours, good condition, desirable motor...?[/QUOTE]
25% off just like that!
