Just got back from earls court, and can only echo JK's comments, great show, and some deals to be had, was a lot quieter than I expected but at least you could get round and see everything, also met a couple of Ribnet members Doug from Stormforce and John Brooks.
Will certainly go again next year.

I stayed about 4 1/2 hours and that was enough for the things I wanted to see and talk with people about (my feet start to complain after that ) I missed out the rag and stick stands as I am not into sailing.

Earl's Court Boat Show - Big Disappointment

Just got back from the Earl's Court Boat Show, overall very disappointed.

Opted to wait until 4pm to get the discounted £10 evening entry.

The people selling tickets will absolutely not sell the discounted tickets until 4pm on the day. Based on how few people were inside the show you would think they would have thought twice about this decision.

Expected much more than was within the hall. I do not think the show entry price was value for money even at the discounted price. After 2 hours of walking around twice I had looked at everything I felt was worthwhile.

I was hoping to see Ribcraft :-(

Today appeared to be a very quiet day for the 1st official day of the show. To the point you actually have to feel a bit sorry for the guy's with trade stands as many will not even cover the cost of their stand space let alone their accomodation for the duration of the show!

One guy mentioned that the main sponsor for the show Whyte & Mackay, has just been bought by an Indian company who have the attitude that they bought a distilery not a boat show and were not willing to spend the money on it?

I did get the feeling, getting there at 4pm that after such a slow day, many of the people on the stands actually were fed up and did not really want to give us the time of day.

So much so I would like to mention the only 5 companies which actually did have the decencey to go out of their way to talk to us:

1, Nucleus Watersports
2, ashortwalk.com (guy selling the tide clocks)
3, Stormforce Coaching
4, Serenity Spas (Pricey but they did know their stuff)
5, Weird Fish, (but we did buy something from them)

I do get the feeling although this was a different style of boat show it does lack the support of the big boys, RYA, RNLI, Barrus Marine, Honda, Susuki, Princess, Fairline and Sunseeker. This is the only way I can see this show taking off?

*** Correction *** I stand corrected, apparently Barrus are there. I must be going blind?

The only big players I saw were Raymarine who had more chairs on their stand than in the entire exhibition hall and Crewsaver.

Comments?

Goodness me, it sounds like its a little bit of a flop. What a shame for the poor guys that are there! Maybe its just as well I'm not going there to drag my little daughter around!
I Hope it picks up for everybody - perhaps this weekend will be better.

Do you have anymore pictures? - I would like to see what it is like even so.

Well I spent the first weekend there, got back last night.

I think that it is a real pity that there were not more people there.
This has the potential to be a great show.
Of those that were there they are and were spending money and for those who have tands that is what counts.

Many of those exhibiting commented on how well they were looked after and how nothing was to much trouble......unlike another event running company!
The layout was great and the basics are there to make this a really good event.
James and his team listen to those paying to be there and don't just pay them lip service!
I totally agree that in the time they have had they have put together a great package.
Hell NBS have been at it for years and still don't get it right!!
This event is run by those who get on the water at grass roots and I think that counts for a great deal.

Why oh why is it not a show if Sunseeker and Fairline are not there?
There is far more to the British marine trade than just them!
IMHO NBS (National Boat Shows) main problem is that it is run by these people and not the grass roots marine world

This show must have NBS worried as two ladies were spotted at the tube station giving away "FREE" tickets to the Excel show!

As for Raymarine being there this is not totally true, like us and Icom they had one member of staff working on a dealers stand. They did however sponsor the "Education Zone" which is manned by Jon Mendez and his team (Swiss Tony etc)
Shame the VHF's on display could not be used to show people how to use the DSC side of the unit works, Which was the idea when this area was suggested to the event by someone not a million miles away

I also think that there will be a lot more stands there next year.
We, like many others, were and always are nervous of a new show but by supporting our dealers we are supporting the event.

Am back up on Wednesday and Sunday.

Cheers

Had to be in London for meetings today (honestly!) so popped in for a quick look. Quieter than expected though apparently busier than previous days. Lots of rags and sticks if you're into that sort of thing (and a bloody big puddle in the middle of the floor - must have been one hell of a leaky roof!). Quite a bit of powered stuff with a few RIBs to be seen. Picked my next RIB (Cougar R10 - don't care how it goes it just looks the biz! And don't bother telling me why it's no better than a <insert your choice of RIB> 'cause I 'aint got the money anyway!). Nice chat with Doug Stormforce - will be doing some business there. Plenty of clothes and bits for sale at what looks like good prices (although probably just clearing last season's stock)

In summary, as others have said, a bit small, need a few more people to show and visit and it could be a really good show.

Andy

ps - and apologies to the ladies of RIBNet - a fair bit of 'totty' on show though I resisted the temptation of a massage from one of the young blondes!!!

Guys I am going on Saturday, thank you Doug.

Apart from Doug (I take it you are going to be there) are their any other Rib.Netters exhibiting or going to be there.

Going to see what it is about and in what way it compares to the other shows, London, Southampton and also to the Ally Pally Dinghy show (or sticks and rags show!!!)

Cool, may take the camera if I remember.

Nasher and Pete were off there today so I'm waiting to hear their views tonight before I commit to a full day out at the show - unless there'a any other feedback

Like the sound of th massage though - better than an over priced pie at Windy city in docklands

dont commit a full day,an hour/2 is plenty of time. not having a dig at anyone but there is very little there, might get better in time, but without the big names there its going struggle. two london boat shows one month apart clearly isnt going to work
