I got involved with one like this early last year before buying Blue Ice. The process went something like this...
1) Chap puts RIB on Ebay (with reserve as it happens in this case).
2) Nobody bids, but seller swaps lots of emails with potential purchasers.
3) Seller arranges sea trials with genuine interested purchasers.
4) Seller ends auction as more interested parties come forward wanting sea trials over a period of a couple of weeks or so...
5) Seller puts RIB back on Ebay and emails all interested parties.
6) Seller then can close the deal on the genuine punter(s).
7) Deal finally closed and auction ended early by mutual consent.
{In the above case I dropped out at stage two - the seller was a really genuine bloke and his information helped me to realise it wasn't the RIB for me.}
