Ebay JetSkiers
I thought this was a myth until today, I went for a quick blast around to Durlston Head and back via Studland, after having a nice relaxing hour reading a good book in studland bay I started heading back across to the swash channel heading for Poole, spotted two up on a jetski in the middle of the swash channel just sitting there. No fishing pole in sight so thought something was up and went near them and asked. Yep broken down Jetski, bought last week from ebay for £2,200, no VHF on them, one phone which was broken due to having got wet by the jetski turning over more than once. They could not start the engine, as they were drifting toward the training bank I decided I was best placed to give them a tow to Poole Harbour. Luckily I have a decent tow rope I made up so all was well. Got hem to Cobbs quay and gave them a lift to Baiter so they could pick up their car and go and pick the jetski up from Cobbs.
I did give them some tips ! on the drive to baiter.

Words of wisdon, were;
avoid ebay
get the engine looked at
replace the battery
take a VHF
buy a waterproof Iphone case
think about buying a personal locator beakon device
I thought that was rather reserved by me; I could have said what did they expect etc
I did also point out as they were new to jetskis the type of things that annoys other boaters like playing on the wake of other boats and going too fast in soem circumstances .. 8-)

Why do other boaters get upset if they play on their wake, providing they keep their distance?

I wouldn't say avoid eBay, my mate got a perfectly good ski off there for similar money to what your "friends" paid.
Knowing what your looking at when buying would help alot more!

I don't think that anyone likes being "followed". In addition, you have to keep looking over your shoulder to see which side they're going to zip past on, as there's every chance they'll do something else stupid.
Oh yeah, and they go faster than RIBs, which is totally unacceptable

Absolutely, as well as ribbing I run a ski ( rxp-260 ) and the majority of boat owners applaud and encourage our wake jumps, it goes without saying I'm careful. I will say however I've seen muppets and idiots on all type of water craft inc ribs

I'm amazed Boris was so cool ...I am sure he used some more choice words when I followed him in a few weeks ago !
When he talks about the jetskis following - its stupidly close....if you backed of the throttle theyd be through the gap between engine and A frame in about half a second.
And dont start me on the ones that have bloody fountain out the back - when they go past ignorant of the fact they are soaking everyone on the boat ! If I wanted to get wet I'd go swimming , or buy another ski !

You're talking about Yamaha Waverunners. They're the ones with the water coming out the swim platform; I have one myself. It's a safety feature that allows other skis and vessels to see them in rough weather. I'm sure you'll approve of that.

It's like being tailgated by some boy racer in a Clio/Saxo/Corsa (feel free to add any car that is usually driven by some spotty yoof with his baseball cap on back to front) It's un-nerving. To keep a safe distance, at the speeds involved he'd have to keep so far back that the wake would be non-existent. He has no idea what you are going to do, stop, turn, slow down etc. So not only are you now looking ahead to see where you are going, you've got this w4nker up your ar5e who could quite easliy wipe out you & your passengers.
Apart from that, I think they're lovely people

Oh dear, oh dear, typical bigoted and prejudiced response!
I consider myself safe on the water ( Spent 5 years crewing on a local Lifeboat ), not everyone on a ski is irresponsible.
As I said on my original post I’ve seen ( unfortunately most weekends on the water ) idiots and muppets in charge of ALL types of water craft
The minority spoil it for the majority
Happy and Safe boating
Lee

Yep - thats them. I have heard that quoted as the 'reason' and yes while its good to see them - they really should be aware of the water they are spurting over enyone unlucky enough to be around the idiots that sometimes drive them. I've been stood on a pontoon and they have pulled away soaking whole familes
Two soaked myself and Boris after watching the Bournemouth airshow....
I'm not convinced of the 'safety feaure' angle...if its rough you are never going to see the water over and above normal spray and think ' oh theres a jetski'....
I heavily believe its not all users who are muppets...but can anyone show me where a boat of any kind has collided with a Jetski & not the ski hitting the boat ?

Guy Fawkes night is coming. A few extra rockets might be worth the money, that and a slow match or two. A bit of creative steelwork in the a-frame and the average RIB could give a good account of itself...

Live and let live. As pointed out above, plenty of tossers in all types of watercraft. If they want to play on my wake, that's fine by me, as long as theyt keep a safe distance. It's no different than me playing on a bigger boats wake in my RIB.
If the fumes don't kill them, they would enjoy the wake of the Pacific with the jet!

jet skis I hate the bloody things, I used to have to repair them , managment could always tell when I was repairing the F&%£ing things with all the swear words coming out of the bay, and gave me a wide berth.

Its not all jetskiers just a few! People in boats can just as bad, ive had to avoid people speeding through anchored boats in swanage & had a few coming to close when towing a ringo...no ones perfect! Even ive made mistakes
