Engine transom nuts and bolts, and trim question.

When I bought my etec 150 engine I was very specfically told the nuts and bolts holding it to the pallet were not the mounting bolts and should not be used to mount on the transom.

Could anyone provide a recommendation of the spec and source for replacements? I have been googling for Johnson/evinrude specifics, but they seem to be only in America.

Second question relates to lift/trim.

My engine is currently stored a few miles away from me. Ideally I will take the hull to the engine, use the telehandler to lift and mount the engine then bring it all back home to complete the fit out. However it is on the crate trimmed down. If I do plan A, I won’t have power to the engine to lift it.

Is there a manual way to lift it without causing any problems or damage, or would I be better to bring it back here on the crate and find another way to lift the engine onto the transom?

I think I have answered the second question. Release the bypass valve for the hydraulics and manually move, then tighten again.

Takson,
Definitely don't use the crate mounting bolts to mount to your transom but you don't need manufacturer specific bolting. Just measure the transom bracket hole / slot size and pick a snug fitting bolt diameter - I think the Evinrude ones are M12 maybe M14. Bolt grade should be A4 stainless (not A2) and high tensile - these will be listed as A4-80.
Bolt length will be dependent on your transom thickness.
Use either nyloc or double nuts
Good source of fasteners here - https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/ScrewBolt_M.html

You'll also need some spreader pads for the inside of the transom - washers aren't really big enough. Best to get a local engineering firm to cut you some 75mm washers or some spreader plates to suit your mounting bolt centres from 3mm 316 stainless.

Hope that's useful

Pleasure. Don't forget washers under the bolt heads (engine side). Standard size are fine for this.
....and plenty of Sikaflex down the bolt holes...

I meant to mention lifting also.....
Be aware the lifting eyes on the block on an ETEC are not designed to lift the whole engine - only the powerhead.
To lift the complete unit you really should be using the Evinrude adapter that engages on the crankshaft.
This is the part (but please check part number Vs your engine)
BTW this is where I get my Evinrude parts - much more reliable than UK supply sadly
