I found these as well but interestingly the stainless steel bits are the same price.

I wonder if having stainless fittings with an aluminium track would cause issues with galvanic corrosion.

Or you can use Duralac as another option.

I was really just thinking aloud as to why stainless fittings for aircraft / cargo track aren't more common - there is possibly just not the market.

I was able to find something
https://www.allsafe-group.com/en/aer...ttrackfittings

There's at least few studs made from material called "CRES" That is corrosion resistant steel.

Transom extension / "motor well"

Latest project update: I have almost completed one of the projects that has been on the bucket list for a while. An extension slash motor well thingy. Always hated how the waves roll in from the aft. This should help.

New console

Time to start a new project, a new console for the Searider.

It will be constructed from 5 & 10mm thick pvc core sheets and GRP of course.
In comparison to old console, it will be slighly narrower and taller, to accommodate new riding height of the seats that I'm also replacing.

Here's my plan for it, anything I missed?

It all looks very good.

This might be useful if you are designing from scratch.

http://ullmandynamics.com/wp-content...-for-speed.pdf

Comments on the renders:

Do you have a VHF?

It looks like you may need to project the wheel a bit further aft so you have space for your knees and it is an easy reach to the wheel.

Is the bar at the top of the windscreen out of your eyeline.

Hi GuyC, thanks for the link and comments!

No more space for the knees is really needed in my opinion, now the space between the seat and the console is 35cm and the seat is so high that the riding stance is quite high too, so knees wont hit the console. I have tried this with a dummy console and it was good. I'm 178cm.

No VHF atm. I think if I needed one there is still some space left.

No worries - it's good that you've already thought about it.

Are you putting a locker in the aft face of the console? If so, you need to remember to allow enough space to open the door. Don't ask me how I know! Fortunately it was remedied fairly easily.

Yep, there will be a locker for maps, and one locker in the side, I think. Not yet totally sure of the internal arrangement of things. Also on the front there will be an opening for storage, leaving some open floor space. A box for ropes etc.

I kicked of the project Today, could not resist.

Internals

Here's a first plan for the internal arrangement. There would be 2 shelves. One for the battery and to divide technical space from storage. The storage is accessible from 2 sides and there is a higher section for a full size cartography in traditional paper format.

Cool and very good work.

3D CAD is something I've always aspired to do but I've never had the time to persevere with it for long enough to do anything useful.

Is that your throttle cables to stbd of the battery and the helm pipework coming out of the back of the pump and then doing a 90 degree downwards? The throttle cables have quite a big bend radius plus they move up and down when you are operating the throttle. I assume they go down the same trunk as the helm pipework. You just might want to model them to check they don't clash with the storage box in the bottom.

I've also put shelves in my console but I've put the batteries (two start and one house) on the bottom shelf / deck as I was a bit dubious about the long term structural integrity of the shelving to withstand the weight of the battery particularly if the boat did a bit of slamming. It is raised a bit and the terminals are higher than the transom so shouldn't be immersed if it is swamped.

I've ended up with a couple of the TCL4 hatches on the port and starboard sides of the console to get occasional access to the technical space. For better access all the equipment - switches, gauges, helm, throttles etc is inserted into three larger panels that can be unbolted from the console.

Good idea with the chart storage. In a similar vein I'm putting a net 'hammock' on the underside of one of the shelves for the same purpose.

Hi!
You are very true with the cabling, I have to test the bend radius and route the cables accordingly. Now I have only checked that the steering cable abides the minimum radius rule and is well above it. Throttle and gear cables can be routed somehow, maybe I have to pierce some holes to the shelves, but let's see. I will test this before it's too late.

I will also put a TCL hatch on the big bolt on hatch in front of the console, to gain access to the battery terminals and a fuse box. I think that I can put the battery on the top shelve, to maximize the storage space, just have to build it strong enough, I'm adding some "stringers" by building a box for the battery, it will stiffen the shelve enormously.

Few progress pics. I think I can join the pieces Tomorrow and start painting insides. Then starts the slow part, planning and building the electrics. I might also build another compartment to the right side of the console, next to the chart plotter, now I don't have anything to fill that space, might as well pierce a hole there and use as storage.

It's silly strong, I can easily climb on top and jump there and it wont budge. Might have used a bit too much glass. On average about 3 mm on both sides and on the corners as much as 5 mm on the inside. Have used about 16 kg of resin.

Almost there

Well here she is in all his flat black glory! Cant wait to get installed into boat, but there is quite a bit of electrical work ahead. New chart plotter coming in this week etc.. Have to say that this was quite an ordeal, but I enjoyed every bit of it. Especially the glorious sanding and hunting pinholes part
