Ooh, I didn't realise they could do that. That's another bit of aeronautical trivia I can bore people with !

From what I can tell, the Chinook needs a little bit of collective, so the rotors are producing downwash. I'd expect it to be done facing into wind to do it, so presumably the boat has to get through some quite significant downwash to get in...
