It seems a great shame that F3 RIB racing is no longer with us (at the moment) -

Racing really needs a cheaper starter class. Perhaps more should have been done to keep costs down and I still think the organisers and the RYA could do much more to help the smaller classes.

Perhaps the class rules needed looking at to help promote faster and more interesting racing within the F3 guidlines.

Also especially as we developed a 6.5M stepped hulled RIB for use in the class!

Sounds interested Adam, perhaps we can found out wether there is an interest on this forum to form group to bring F3 back in action latter part this summer or definately for 2005. I even might have 1 or 2 teams out of Iceland who are interested in racing but we have no boat races over here the last one goes back to 1981 when we raced on hard cabin boats around Iceland.
Guys tell your feeling and interests in supporting and participating in F3 races on this thread !!!!!!!!!!

It is interesting that both offshore 1.3L and F3 RIBs have both really struggled in recent years - yet many people think it is a good idea!

So I think there is the possibility to make a good class around that size but perhaps a new look to the rules is needed, to attract more people.

F3 did allow slightly larger engines than 1.3litre offshore - but perhaps that could be increased to any 4 cylinder outboard?

What other rules would be good for the class?

One for BIBOA - if enough interest.

Agree perhaps good idea incresing the engine a bit to fit todays technologies. Adam what would you estimate the F3 rig package would cost for a newcomer to start from scratch ?
I will have a look wether I have BIBOA race rules for F3 to read them over. I should send them my membership registration as I haven´t be member there for a long time or since I raced in early days with Paul Lemmer on his Rapier 29 with the Yamaha diesel before time of all todays regulations and classifications, even the Marines where racing in those days.

Hi

Should have something by the end of the week - actually making changes at the moment both with laminators (due to workload) and tube manufacturer (because we have been let down by our existing one) - so this will also effect pricings.

Also on subject of F3 - my company K4+ would be interested in putting up a trophy some prize money for the National Championships in 2005 if there was enough boats doing it. Would not be fortunes - but would be better than anyone else is doing. Subject to enough boats and agreement with RYA / BIBOA.

F3 Boats

The other boat that would be available for F3 is our first RIB - tah twas raced by the Wilby's in F2 last year.

She was always going to be a F3 boat but due to the class loosing all other competitors they raced it in F2 - where really it was too small.

Unfortunately they had a coming together with a 27' Revenger (after over taking it) at the last race. We have now repaired the hull. The tubes are still to be repaired. New console is on the way and new rear moulding as well.

She would make a fantastic F3 boat and is for sale.

Certainly not in my dreams!!!

Mel and Andy overtook Pete at Portsmouth - then spun out (probably due to steering failure) and collided

Don't think there is much doubt about that - surprised you did not know!

Forgive me if I am wrong on this.

But wasn't Zap Cat Racing started as the base entry level class for power boat racing or is it nothing to do with the RYA or BIBOA ?

From the races I have spectated at, looks extreamely exciting & challenging.

Dose all racing have to be governed by RYA/BIBO?

Apart from owning a boat what other requirements needed to partake in this type of event.

It would be helpful if one of the racers or organisations could provide info/links to subject please, you must have started somewhere.

No it wasn't - it was started by Euan Mcgrath as a good idea!

No it doesn't although the RYA have the rights to everything with National Championship in it, and insurance would be very difficult without them plus they issue licences etc....

If it is a basic race a day licence will do, to enter a championship you will need a license for the season - mine is for Inernational class III up to 4 litre and Formula 2 RIB and costs £300! (The navigator will need one as well!) For National racing the boat will need a measurement certificate as well as all the safety gear.
