Falcon 700rsr
I have a falcon 700 rsr or a rib x xp 700 which ever you want to call it, both identical. My rib has a mercury optimax 150hp and i, at the moment have reached 54.8 mph on the gps, i was wondering if this is right i have told it should do closer to the 62mph mark, is this true? And also i have been offerd a new evinrude 200 high output for next season and apparently this should boost the boat to 80mph is that correct?
Thankyou

A lot will depend on your prop and the rpm of your engine. Also how clean the hull is etc etc. Obviously more power will help - why not get the ETEC 250hp??? Same weight!!!

I would very much doubt that 62mph is achieveable with your setup.

Only in Jackanory land. I think that both the figures you've been quoted are exaggerated, by at least 10mph in the case of the 200hp engine IMvHO.
It would be interesting to hear who'se being telling you these little porkies.

You need to contact Manos... he's the "expert" on achieving remarkable velocities with these Falcon thingies…..

I assume you mean 275rpm and NOT 2750??? If that is the case youa ren't far off it anyway.
Not a clue as to speed with the 250 - will obviously go faster - maybe 70mph???
Ribs are not the best speed machines out there - a flat bottom boat will always be quicker - where RIBs score is in rough seas - you don't want more speed you need bigger waves!!!

ive yet to be on a leisure rib that does 70mph evan with 2 x 300hp on the back
as richard b says owners are like fishermen, it always goes faster than when i am on it
68 69 but not 70mph
race ribs and commercials now thats a peice of piss but a family boat costs a lot of ££££ to break the 70mph mark

It will not do the speeds quoted with a 200 HO on the back - Richard Strawford was racing one this year on a Pascoe RIB which is the same hull as a bat boat and it was only just managing 70 after he took the lifter off, so I would say that is impossible (it was a handfull as well!)
We overtook him in the race boat with an XR2 on in dead flat water around the back of the Isle of Wight recently, and he was struggling at around 68 - 69 mph!
Our pruduction boat will do 60 with a Laser 23, but that is with a 225 Optimax powering it - but it is heavier, got a centre of gravity further forwards, the engine is lower etc ............ but it is setup for cruising and skiing not racing - a big differance!
If you want advice on going faster email me!

hi!!
my name is Philippos i'm from Greece and..
i recently bought a falcon 700 rsr and i am having some problems making it go smooth without banging all the time even in smooth water!
i realized that it has shorter engine that it should .. the anticavitation plate is about 6cm above the hull bottom so i installed a power lift but it couldn't lower the engine because the hydraulic steering will hit the transom. Now when running the boat the anticavitation plate is about 4 cm above the water! i was told to cut the transom (its flat it doesnt have a cut) to bring the engine to the right height and that this is a standard procedure for this boat due to construction error in the mold!
recently i found that with this setup runs smoothly when having 2-3 people in front of the console! the engine is Long e-tec 200 small block with a Viper prop 21 pitch! it reaches about max 45 knots with 5 people on board and 100ltr fuel in 4900rpm (has to reach 5300-5800rpm)!
i dont want speed i mostly seek smooth rides!
do you have any suggestions to have smoother ride???
do you suggest another prop??
generally any suggestions how to correctly setup this boat???
anything relevant about the boat i would appreciate it because here in Greece its very rare boat...
thanks!

Well you dragged this one up from the grave .......... I would guess that it isn't an error in the mould, but rather it was designed for a longer engine than the one fitted!
If that is the case then change the motor or cut the transom - have you tried different props? They can have an amazing difference in handling?

no i didnt tried different props yet because i think that first i have to adjust the engine to the right height and then try props!

Changing a couple of props is easier than cutting your boat up!

sure! but i feel that the boat does not have a "grasp" with the water, in the slightest wave the prop will be out of the water because the engine is too high! also i dont have trim! does a different prop going to fix all these?
