Falmouth Base - Hints and Tips please

We will be holidaying on the Fal next week with our boat so I'm looking for any good ideas on a couple of fronts.

As a bit of context, we have been down to this area many times (since I was a kid) so we know the whole area pretty well from the land side and from canoeing (mainly on the Truro river) and a bit of sailing in Carrick Roads. (It was actually a commercial rib trip out from Falmouth that convinced us we had to get a rib!!)

So any hints about:
- good places to spot some of the wildlife (Blackrock for seals is one I know of);
- good places to bag a few mackerel;
- those rib accessible only beaches (that you might be willing to share);
- any other 'must do' trips.

Being solo, unless the weather is outstandingly good we will probably limit our range to say around the Lizard and similar in the 'other' direction - probably not the Scillies this year!

Thanks in anticipation.

Don't miss the Pandora - lunch time is often less busy than evenings.

Ah, I suspect the kids will insist on that! They consider feeding the crabs there an essential element of the holiday.

At least this time we won't have to worry about car park - just rafting up on the pontoon

Probably have to do the Smugglers Cottage/Inn at Tolverne too.

Are there any other watering holes as easily boatable?

Ooooh yes. This takes me back to my youth, which on reflection, was largely spent visiting pubs by boat along the south Cornish coast. Try:

Harbour Tavern, Mevagissey
Ship Inn, Fowey
Rashleigh Inn, Polkerris
Victory Inn, St Mawes
Ferryboat, Helford
Kings Arms, Marazion
Cadgwith Cove Inn, Cadgwith

I'll not say how long it is since my youth, so I hope they are all still there and as good as they were then. Have a good trip (and of course, don't drink and drive!)
