-Picture 3: is a Leeway 8.3m, truly awful photo though Richard you need to get a newer camera, my photos much clearer!

Richard, what about the rest of the family ? btw are you just interested in straight copies or ribs which had been based on other designs ? meanwhile here is another one for your collection and there are still more

As Pete says are we including RIBs based around existing designs, or are we sticking to straight copies? Im assume we are sticking to the Steve Baker designs here, we could also illustrate the Mike Ring variations with the Ring ribs and the Shearwater, although these are based around existing designs as opposed to straight copies.
Pete is that a Tohatsu rib, am I right in saying that the Solent RIB is very similar?

Whatever take your fancy!

Just for clarity, the first picture I posteed - a grey tubed Phantom Evolution, is a legitimate, licensed version of a Phantom, like the orange picture that ADS posted.

Really, I knew the 'Evo and the Phantom UK RIB based on the P16 were legit, I hadn't realised the Tohatsu/ Solent Ribs were not, or am I getting confused here!!

Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of copying a design for a moment, I do think the Solent and Tohatsu variants are very good and fast ribs, indeed I would prefer one to say a similar sized Scorpion which seem to hand on the port chine rather than level. Possibly down to a very good original design by Steve then. Whilst the copying issue would annoy anyone, perhaps the knowledge that so many are able to enjoy fast and stable ribs might be some solace because he got the design so right in the first place.

i think i agree with pete leaving aside the copy / modified issues is it not better to have a good safe productbased on mr bakers designs for example than a piss poor product that may be unsafe or fall apart on you

Pete, if you're talking about the unauthorised copying of a design, can you enlighten us to any of the "rights"? I would say that there can only be wrongs and wrongs!

Are you on drugs!?! Well, each to their own... the only reason (IMvHO) to choose a Solent over a similarly sized Scorpion is that Graham doesn't build 6.5m Scorpions any more.

You need to learn to drive a performance RIB dear boy - too many years chugging around at 22kts in that old Pac! Would you like me to demonstrate how to keep a fast RIB level at speed? Funny thing though - I remember you telling everyone how well Stu's old Scorpion 6.5 handled!

Anyway, is this an annual brain-fart you're having? I seem to remember that almost a year ago to the day you reckoned that a Trio 5.5m hull with two spray rails and a reverse chine was a splash of a Ribtec 5.35 with three spray rails and the tube flange attached directly to the deadrise! Duh!

The question is, Paul, how to separate the wheat form the chaff? The safe from the unsafe? The good BWM copy form the Ferryman?

The Reply is to Leeway Composites;

As to relevance of comments you need to be very sure of your facts before you print what is effectively libel.

Tornado bought Elite Ribs in the early 90's and there was a question over the origin of the Elite 780, which Tornado substantially modified in to the 7.3, a boat that has not been made for 10 years by Tornado

All other craft in the current Tornado range are developed from their own plugs that can all be seen at the Tornado factory.

XS again have plug up development of all their craft.

If you wish to disagree please put your case in writing to me and we will take it further !

The following is not facts merely hearsay but im sure I over heard that the Phantom 28 mould was used in both the 10m Tornado and now the later XS ribs, is this the case?
