So I used to have a Warrior 175 with a 140 Suzuki, then I had a SIB for a year- a Boatworld Carno Pro 365 with a Tohatsu 20HP engine. Someone stole the engine and I ended up selling the boat, but I'm hoping to get set up again for the spring. The thing is, I loved the SIB and it went about 20 knots which is awesome, but it was useless as soon as there was any chop at all. I did like the portability of the SIB but I ended up keeping it on a trailer anyway, so I think I might as well get a RIB or maybe a FRIB?

My question is this - if we were to say RIB, what's my best option, staying as small as possible to get something much faster? I'd love to be able to bomb it over to the isle of Wight from Poole Harbour in 20 minutes. Something that goes 30+ knots easily? Maybe even 40? But I want to keep it as small as possible becasue I love hunting bass in extremely shallow water and big engines are bloody expensive. I realise I'm going to have a bigger engine and therefore a bigger boat but what do you guys think is the minimum to get some speed going?
Hi. We sell Rebel aluminium RIBs at Farndon Marina. They do a very good range of RIB's from 2.4m upto 5.8 (Can get larger). I have sold a 3.6 Raider with console which is used on the North Sea. They go batting around on it. That will take a 30HP engine. We have had 30kn in that with the 30kn it. We are also waiting for their new Rebel Riot 420 which will be in the UK early 2025. That will take a 70 and later a new Raider 420 which will have a built in 29lt. That's predicted to take a 60. So, both will be quick RIBs. We will be at the Caravan/Camping show in Feb. The Riot 420 should be their (Fingers crossed) and on show and we are having an open weekend 17/18 May 25 with RIB's on the water to try. You are very welcome to come for a play. I hope this helps. My number is on the Farndon Marina site.

Ok interesting. That Rebel Riot 580 Sport looks crazy! Apart from the hideous flourescent seats, mind. I love how much there is to hang on to though. That's probably the one thing I loved about my Warrior 175. 480 looks like the ultimate estuary bassing boat though. Or maybe even the 380 if you can row as well for extra stealth.

What is the V hull like on these though, compared, to say the Avon SR4? I'm guessing it won't compare going by what I'm reading in this thread, however I there will comnpromises with any model I purchase, I'm sure.

Yeah the Riot 580 Sport colour is bold. It was done like that to catch attention as it was being reviewed in the British Boating Magazine. You can have less bright colours. The dead rise for the 380Raider is 15 degrees. I'm waiting on the info from the boat builder for the new Raider 420 and the Riot 420. I can't find the dead rise info for the SR4 i'm afraid. The 480 is having a face lift too. However, I can't add a copy of the rendering to show you. We are having an open weekend, being the 17/18 May 2025. We will have Rebel RIB's on the water for people to try. It would be great if you can join us.

If I may, I'll jump in here. You must bare in mind I know knowt about ribs.
However, I was impressed with the overall quality of the Rebel ribs that I saw at the Southampton Boat Show this year (apart from the upholstery colour!)
Everything looked right, nothing looked out of place and in my opinion the price was very attractive.
If I was in the market I would look at one, but I would want to take someone with me who knew a lot more about ribs than I do.

Hi Steve509926 I'm please that you liked the RIBs when you saw them at SIBS. It was probably me or Graham that you spoke to. What colour upholstery would you prefer to see? This is always a very debated topic when we are putting the boats together because you want something to stand out and be different from everyone else, but not so much that it detracts from the RIB. So, any colour scheme preferences would be great. We have Rebels in stock at Farndon Marina. You are most welcome to come for a chat and definitely bring your friends/advisors. We will be very happy to talk over points with you. Also, you may like to read the impartial review carried out by the British Boating Magazine. The RIB's did very well. Please come and see us at our open weekend, the 17/18 May 25. We will have Rebels in the water for people to try. Its a free weekend and there will be food to. We will also be at the NEC camping and motorhome show in Feb 25. Hope to speak to you soon.

If I can also answer that, just red like with the red and black 480 would be ok for me.

I rather like the look of the 480 actually. I can't see the max power for the 480 as when you click on specifications on the Rebel website nothing happens. I'd be interested to know the max HP and estimated top speed on a flat day for the Riot 480....

15,° is pretty shallow & probably reflects the current trend of smaller boats being built as tenders or flat water boats, just measured a few boats I have lying around here & my 7.4delta is about 25° my daughters sr5.4 is around 26° my solent 5.4 is about 24° & my sons sr4 is around 23° those figures probably arent totaly bang on but close enough to say most good riding hulls will be 20°+
Those 4 hulls are all older designs (the solent was a rip off from a phantom hull afaik) but they are all relatively soft riding hulls with a well proven pedigree

Hi beamishken. The Riot 520 is a 25°, the 560 and 580 are both 24°. The 420's are 20°. I agree that the smaller RIB/tenders tend to be a lesser degree.

Hi Lod. the Max hp is 80. We sold a 480 with a Honda 80 on it. When tested, we got 36kn out of it on a flat day. There is a new facelift model of the 480 coming out early in 2025. I'm just waiting to the renderings to be sent through. I'm pleased that you like the colours. It really is difficult getting it right. I've just tried Rebels site. It's working ok now. Graham might have been working on it. If you have any more issues with it, just email me at alex.boden@farndonmarina.co.uk and I'll let him know.

Hi Lod. The dead rise for the 420 and 480 are both 20°. I did try to find the info re the dead rise on an SR4, bit I can't find it. If anyone can answer, that would be appreciated.

Do people want SR4 style RIB's?

Depends which 'people' you are asking - the average RIBnutter is probably not the average small boat buyer.....

Slight misunderstanding, I'm not in the market for a Rib.
I'm a Sib man and can't see me buying a Rib, although I'll never say never.

Colour wise, it's more that I steer clear of neon green and orange terracotta in most things I buy.

I would like to see you get from Poole to IOW in 20 minutes!
Takes me about 30 in a 6.7 Brig at about 30 knots

Hi Max. I understand. It's difficult to get it right for everyone.

Hi Playtime. The Riot 580 with the Tohatsu 115 has a max speed of 40 kn. So, if the weather conditions are perfect, traveling from Poole to Cowes which is approx 15nm at 40kn would take 22.5 mins. In an ideal world.

My Warrior 175 with 140 Suzuki once hit 39knots. The engine was raised by a guy who used to race powerboats in Poole and I got another 5 or so knots out of it. Took me about 25 minutes once if I recall. It was a nice flat day of course. I wouldn't expect speed like that otherwise. Half an hour or 40 minutes is also fine. My point really is that I'm looking for a fast RIB.

Now we're talking! And the 480?
