My searider 4m , 2 up with a 2 stroke 40hp, 32 knots flat out. I wouldn't want to go anywhere near that in any type of chop.
Tbh once I'm on the plane I'm happy. Go to fast and the journeys over far to quickly and the journey is why I have a RIB, getting wherever I want to go 20 minutes quicker is defeating the object of it all. That's not to say I don't enjoy a quick 2 minutes at full chat.

Couldn't agree with you more tinker. I have so many friends who want to do things flat out and before you know it, it's over with and you think "how the f_ck did I get here"

Apart from boating my other passions are being up in the mountains and skiing, but back country skiing, slow, considered and planned. Life's too short to be doing everything fast.

Usually I fully agree and I'm considering the K2 base camp trek but when it's fishing time and you're trying to get somehwere for the right tide and the bass, I just want to get there as fast as possible. The rest of the time I'm happy just on the plane pootling around, or not even on the plane if I'm stalking the spiky bastards inside the harbour. I just want the option of going like absolite stink when I need to

Problem is nothing that small is going to get you that speed in any type of chop, unless you want to lose some teeth and or damage your back. If you go bigger to get the speed then you lose the easy launch and it's putting you right back into the Warrior type size and weight that's far better suited to what you want than a small RIB or a RIB that size + you have shelter from the rain and sun.....IMHO

Yeah I have been thinking about this and I'm coming to the conclusion that I either go for a slightly bigger RIB, say minimum 480 or stick to the Boatworld Carbon 365 SIB which I did enjoy, it would just mean I'd have to pick my days and launch from Mudeford if I want to go the the IOW or Christchurch Ledge. The rest of the time I can pootle round the harbour. I just fancy hitting the banks and catching some whoppers next year. At the moment I am really liking the look of this Rebel Riot 480 actually I have to say.

Even the smallest rib will get you there quicker & more comfortable than a sib of similar size. A deeper v hard hull that rides well will get you to your destination faster 9 out of 10 times than a flatter v hull that is actually faster in a straight line flat calm test. A flatter hull will be faster with a given hp than a similar size deep vee but you'll rarely be able to use the speed as its rarely flat enough

Yeah I get that but if I'm gonna go small like that I might just capitalise on the portability of the SIB and only try and get out far if it's flat. I can happily fish in the harbour most of the time. I can get 20 knots out of the SIB, just would have to pick a flat day. I'm coming round to the idea that if I'm gonna get a RIB it's going to have to be a little bigger and a big step up in speed and handling otherise i might just as well stick to what have been doing on the cheap.

Yeh in general the smaller & cheaper the boat the more smiles you get per £1

Not sure where your based Lod, but Lymington to the the Needles wasn't that far and much closer than than Mudeford to the Needles.

This was a trip we did this year:-

Hey cheers Steve - My Dad lives in Keyhaven, I'd actually be inclined to launch it from there for just the IOW as the Lymington river is quite long and slow but for a bass trip I'd want to start on Christchurch Ledge probably for the ebb and then move onto marks off the IOW, that's why I'd probably launch from Mudeford.

Lovely footage there, you picked a great day for it!

Honestly, I had more fun on my 3.65m SIB last year than I did on the Warrior I think. It was too much stress on the Warrior but the SIB was a piece of piss.

The downside, of course was the inability to get a little further in any decent amount of time, hence my considering the switch to a RIB. But in terms of exploring the harbour and stalking bass in calm weather and beaching in unusual places, etc nothing beats the SIB for me.

For a modern designed, small rib - take a look at the Highfield Patrol 4.2 - https://www.highfieldboats.com/boat/...ge/patrol-420/

A great bow rise gives a better ride then most small ribs, the twin spray rails leads to a pretty dry ride and at 4.2m long is as easy to launch / store etc as teh old SR.

Hi LOD. I'm really pleased that you like the looks of the Rebel Riot 480. It is a lovely RIB.

You may also quite like the new Rebel Riot 420. This will be available early 2025. You can have it with or without the bimini. This will take upto a 70hp and has a built in tank of 47lt. Hope you like this too.

Rebel Riot 420

I'm trying to add a photo. It doesn't appear to be showing it. I have created a gallery for the Riot 420 and the Raider 420. We are also going to have a Club 420, 460 and 480 next year too.

Thanks, I'm keen to have a look at all of them, let me know when you have working links

That's a very nice looking boat in black - classy bit of design there and I see the dead rise is 20 degrees. Interesting, thanks. What would you estimate the top speed to be with the 60HP?
