Fiberglass Tubes
Has anyone ever made fiberglass tubes, I have seen RIB's built with aluminium tubes but has anyone made the from fiberglass, I have a 4mtr RIB with no tubes, I was thinking of putting glass tubes on her and use it for fishing, attach the fendering and handles to the fiberglass tubes and mount a single jockey seat, I would imagine it would not be very comfortable in rough conditions, what do ye think....

Surely that means it isn't a RIB anymore... Or have I missed something?

Im thinking of an alternative to retubing, of course this will not be as good. I have a RIB already and have a small hull that i want to mess about with and try it out, was seeing if anyone else had seen this done

But then there wouldnt be the air pressure in the tubes surely. Do the life boats ever use fiberglass? Also the cushioning wouldn't not be there that the flexibility of hyperlon gives. You want a sea tank do you? , just get a good repair kit and dont worry about it. By some nice champagne instead. If your really worried you could just get a submarine , no worries then. If your worried about running out of fuel as well you can also go with the uranium powered engine upgrade.

I think the ride quality of the boat will remain the same, obviously sitting on fibreglass tubes ain't gonna be comfy.
I'd give it a go if you've got the time and "spare" money.
I think its flugga up the Shetlands use PVC pipe and seem to do the job...

I suspect you'll have a few iterations trying to get the tubes to stay attached. The leverage of a rigid, buoyant, edge-mounted tube repeatedly slamming against the water has to be huge. Hypalon, as stated before re: rid comfort, flexes to absorb that shock, but glass won't.

I know i am replying a bit late, but i wanted to know if you did try to make the tubes out of fiberglass?? I am doing that experiment right now and should be testing it next weekend. I modified a mercury 3.40m inflatable. If any one is interested i will post some pics and how the boat performs.
