First Proper day Out

Went out today for the first time lanched at Walsash then crossed to Cowes had a pint at the pub by the Ferry Terminal then went back out
for a play in the solent.

Within five mins of turning on the New 401 I got a siren so listened in on CH16 and there was a boat out of Little Hampton that had lost its skipper. Anyone know how that ended?

Also on the way back crossing over the Brambles a sailing boat flagged us down cause he got stuck. I did not realise the water over the Brambles dropped so low, according to the sounder it was 2.5 feet is this normal for low (ish) tide? this was at about 3.00pm so the tide was not completely out according to the BBC?

Have you not heard of the cricket matches played on the Brambles Bank on low water springs?

Its a Viper 5.25 with Johnnson 90 on the back.

Next time I head down I will post to find out whose out and about.

According to the weather buoy out in the solent it was a force 6/7 yesterday ! It was certainly a wet day out with face fulls of spray from the wind and I must invest in some waterproof trousers !

Chris,

Was that you just launching witht the green Freelander as we arrived at Warsash. By the time we'd sorted ourselves you were away.

Yes it was a fresh day, coming back later in the afternoon was fun riding along the troughs and peaks of the waves as they rolled underneath us from the side. Took a couple of bits of spray hitting us from my side which reminded me how cold the water is at this time of the year.

Certainly a good day for a play around in the Solent and to improve boating skills but not a good day to venture too far out of the Solent.

Makes you feel glad you've got that nice big island on the other side of the water providing a fair amount of protection.
