It's not an elephants trunk in the cense that is used to remove deck water, but for the drain plugs at the very bottom of my rib.
They replace the bung and have a profile like a flatfishes tale, a sort of mini elephants trunk I suppose, but made from soft rubber like is found on drysuit cuffs.

Do you know what a fish looks like?
They are a through hull fitting terminated by a short rubber tube which flattens towards the end and the water pressure keeps the flat sides squished together so they look like a fish tail.
Sorry Hightower, I've not seen them for a while so can't help.

No those are flap bailers which result in your Rib being full to the top of the fuel tank vent if you leave her in the harbour overnight.
Ok we left 8 cylinders and weight belts on board which probably didn`t help. We then invested in a damn big cork for future overnights.
If you remember to pull them up elephants trunks are in my opinion the best, though you can get very large fishtail bailers which leak very little. However most fishtails are very small and designed to drain the underdeck space, preferably into a well with a normal bailer or straight out if you are not going to leave the Rib on a mooring.
Remember to replace them with a bung if you are, because grit, seaweed, crap from the underdeck space will in the end cause them to stay open and you will have a soggy set of deck stringers.
