Flooring

One of the next projects I wish to tackle on my RIB is the flooring. It’s an ex MOD SR5.4 which has this black flooring down with a very very coarse non slip coating. I’m not sure if this is original MOD flooring or added by someone else but it needs redoing.

As you will see from the pictures, some areas have started to flake off, but the vast majority is solid and won’t scrape off.

I would like to do something with it as 1- I don’t like the look of it with chips in it in various places and 2 - it’s far too rough on the kids feet as they are often bare foot in the RIB.

What could I do with it? Simply cover it in resin and gel coat with sand / non slip bits in it or would that add too much weight? Or how would be best to remove what’s there?

The sub flooring feels in great condition with no soft or boggy areas so I’m not concerned about that bit.

Looks kinda like bed liner?

I would try a lot of heat with a heat gun and a sharp non bendable scraper first. 24 grit sandpaper might rip it too with a powerful sander or grinder. (Festool's RO150's and RAS115's work well for the bulk of these kind of jobs. Dust collection is always nice!)

After removal you will need to decide on what kind of flooring you desire, and the parts not covered will need to be gel coated or something. There are lots of soft decks available today, with many of the foam type looking similar to teak decking.
