flying ribs

Talking of fantasy ribs has reminded me of a flying rib I saw on tv the other day - can't remember what the prog was but 2 people were in a little rib with a microlight wing attached - looked cool and flew well - like a little flying boat.

When I told my brother we could do the same to the 8.5m we hope to be buying he said it would need something like a cessna instead!!!

I think its going to be at rib x this year but not flying due to CAA not granting it a license looks fun and could have lots of applications for groups that monitor rain forests and the like , would be interesting to see how it performs
i think i remember seeing an article in Rib International about it

The makers of this setup had a stand at the Excel Boat Show in London complete with an actual craft.. From what I remember, they are not even allowed to sell it in the UK as they need to get the proper licenses etc before thay can unleash them to the public. I gathered that they could only be purchased overseas for the moment and were present at the Boat show for publicity and hopefully to catch a few foreigners. That's roughly the stage they're at from what I can remember.

As per Tim's posting, there was an article in RIB Int'l 2 issues ago, big pic on the front cover.

Hi Bajan
you would get some great pictures during Cowes week if you could have that as a press rib

That's for sure, I'd be there like a shot. Methinks Ingrid might take a little convincing somehow.
