For all you DIY'ers

If you could turn back the clock....

What would you have done differently with your build, anything you would change ?

I'll get the ball rolling

- Mounted Tranducer in the Hull from day 1.
- Run some spare cables through the Aframe in case of changes or additions at a later date.
- Fitted Trim Tabs straight out
- Fitted a higher screen and stainless surround.

All things that I sorted out later on but it would have been much easier (and cheaper) to have got it right in the first place

Bigger under deck trunking - I've just replaced my co-ax cables and ended up having to cut a hole in my deck for more access

And if I knew then what I know now, probably wouldn't have gone for Optimax's

I'd make a larger "ditch" at the stern for deck water to collect in before getting pumped out. I like my Ribcraft but if there's open thing I don't like its water running around my feet (of course its unavoidable sometimes in a big sea)

I'd have stuck with Lowrance electronics instead of Raymarine. In future I would buy the hull & engines separately & rig them myself, despite the price difference in buying a "package".

Not tried to do it with a new baby in the house!

On a more serious note, probably got one with a bigger console.

Lowrance plotter so I could add structure scan at half the price
Argued more with Roy that yes I did need a bilge pump
All-roller trailer not the roller bunk model

Not much else really, a good season on I am still very happy

Sounds like Raymarine really are a bag of shite I was looking at them as an option on TB2 however looking at the trouble you and GG are having then they are off the list !.

As for rigging you own engines I believe you can probably get a better price if you source your own especially come end of season. If you are dealing with a manufacturer that tries to shove their preferred engine down your throat and then wants to charge you a premium for having the boat "sans" engine then tell em to feck orf and go elswhere

Don't get me wrong, the Raymarine kit was the best available when I specced the boat, but literally weeks later, Lowrance brought out the Structure Scan which I would have liked. I've not had any trouble with them, interfacing to the Etecs was a bit of a challenge but it was down to finding/making the correct cable which Raymarine didn't seem to have, all sorted now. Re; rigging, you're probably right in telling the manf. who won't discount the bare hull to F'off, but that's the hull I wanted & they had me by the shorts. They wanted to put twin 90hp 4s Suzis on the back, but I stuck out for the Etecs & boy am I glad I did, it would have been a dog with the 4s 90's. Lesson learned Next time it's definitely sans moteurs & I'll do it myself (& make a better job of it) & save myself the £1500 they had off me for rigging

Hmm let me see...
I really like my setup and its been a good one. roller coaster trailer, good console, large sump, easily fitted internal transducer. good access to cables etc. and more importantly reliable.

The only thing I would have changes would possibly have been a slightly larger console to fit all the gadgets on and a rear bench seat but at the time I needed the deck space for diving but now with 3 kids I need seats.

But I did buy it 20 years ago and its still going strong.
