"Force 4/5/6"?

Hey,

i'ma newbie here, and was wondering what you are reffering to when you say "force 4" or 'force 5" weather. I know this is reffering to the roughness of the seas, but how many mph wind or how big of waves are in each "force"?

Thanks!

BTW: I was out in my searider (got the engine fixed) and there were 3-5 foot waves out there (they always seem bigger when your out there) and I have to say I was extremely impressed with my boat. It handled them with pride. Needless to say, it was a bumpy ride, felt like I was on a dirtbike or something (Up and down and over and under) but what a confidence booster, in myself and my boat!

Have a look here: http://www.r-p-r.co.uk/beaufort.htm The 'force' is the Beaufort Force (first column in the table in the link).
