Fuel Collection

May be of interest to those of you with boats that are not so easy to get into the local petrol station...

Have found a supply of 20l Jerry Cans at under £12 each inc. VAT - and they are NEW.

I feel an ebay coming on! Thought it a bit merciless to try and make a buck off what is essentially a free forum (rib.net that is not evilbay).

It is from one of the MOD disposal outlets - 2nd hand are £5...
Figured if we bought a job lot I could get them delivered to Southampton and collect from there.

Car boot sales or jumbles are good for these - a great place to visit is the Old Sodbury sortout - now held at Newbury every year - it is a Land Rover jumble and is HUGE - people literally come from all over the world.

Even if you aren't a Landie freak it is a great place to pick up Jerry Cans and army surplus stuff etc.

some advice on the jerries

i have a old one and it is far superior to the new one i have, would recommend going for the s/h army surplus ones as are a tougher grade of steel but slightly heavier. some of the new ones look a bit tinny if you know what i mean

however both work fine if you know what i mean

I agree the cheap Chinese ones aren't up to much - the ones for a fiver from boot sales etc are far better!!!

Tha Harwoods deal looks a bit better - for us islanders... Saves messing about with deliveries. Would need eight to fill the tanks but I think 4 would be enough...

Machine Mart: branches all over the place do them for £15.22 (incl VAT) and in red or green. They can also supply a metal fixing bracket for around £17.

Just a thought.

Might be useful for a Weymouth trip

Why isn't there fuel in Weymouth? (A gap in the market for sure.)
