Fuel Filler: Fix or Replace

Hi all

Got a bit of a shock at the weekend when realised petrol was pouring out the console as I fuelled (petrol station).turned out I'd just poured 45l of fuel into the bilge rather than tank.

Took the console covers off and found the filler had split as per pic. It has an o-ring and what looks like the remains of glue. Had also been bodged with electrical tape...

So question. Good to fix with glue or full replacement? Will probably do a full replace in due course as the key is stuck in the cap, but is it safe to fix in the meantime?

I'll go with replace :-)

Struggling to find a decent one online without ordering from abroad. Any good suppliers anyone can recommend. Force4 have the same as old but wrong size.

Jay Wolfe sell some nice stainless ones, I bought one from there and seem good quality. Think they are Osculati

It depends on the type of plastic, replace is good but if the plastic is ABS, solvent cement, which isn't actually adhesive, will make a sound repair.
A hose clip around it afterwards, even the replacement one, will help take the outward strain off it for the future.

Doubt if it’s ABS, more likely polypropylene/polyethylene or something else with a “Poly” in it[emoji6]. ABS isn’t particularly good with solvents (petrol).
