Fuel on the Thames

Can anyone advise where the best place is to fill up a rib with fuel (petrol) on the Thames. I will cruising in an around the Tower Bridge area.

Are prices similar to the south coast marinas ?

tks

There is no petrol on the tidal Thames so you'll need to use jerry cans. There aren't many places to stop off either. Where are you planning to go?

The nearest place for quayside petrol is Chatham. There's a Texaco on The Highway about half a mile from St Katherine Docks, you'd need a friendly taxi driver though.

I believe you now CAN get petrol on the Thames which is why the PLA dropped their Yanmar diesel outboards and went for Mariner 4 strokes.

Try these guys - Marine | Pace Fuelcare

That would be a result, though I'm surprised they would get enough trade. Police, PLA, London RIB - are they running petrol boats these days?

I wouldn't have thought there would be a lot of passing trade as the speed limit has made the Tideway a rather unsatisfactory place to take a RIB or any other planing boat.

The PLA Upper River launches are on petrol now and there are several big Humbers running tourists with Etec's on the back.

Sorry guys. You are right about the PLA and the Humber quinquari ribs running petrol but London Rib voyages have recently sold their petrol ribs apart from one and gone to diesel. The PLA installed their own bunded fuel tank when their diesel outboards became unreliable, they had to make the change to keep their upriver launches running.

Petrol is available from Thames Ditton Marina or Chatham Marina in the Medway or via Jerry Can.
