fuel sender

Hi Everyone

I am having a nightmare of a time trying to replace my fuel sender / gauge.. Firstly my old gauge packed working when I took it out the connecter that goes to the sender unit was badly corroded so I went to a chandlery which I won't name and bought a replacement gauge and sender made by veethree (think this is USA type) (one of the ones that has an arm)

At this stage I hadn't removed the old sender, this was the next nightmare the sender is on the left of the fuel tank under the console but the inspection hatch on the right side so to get it out I either had to remove the whole console and redo it all or cut the console and put in a small indpection hatch - I opted for this option

Eventually we got it out (by this time father in law came to help)

We got it all wired up and cut to length and working outside the tank. We then dropped it into the tank but it didnt seem to float so we poked around in the tank with it a little but came to the conculsion the tank appears to have baffles in it and the arm type will be no good.

Have been looking around on the internet for a pole type sender but am not really having much luck! I did see the same chandlery sell a wema sender unit but it doesn't appear to have the 5 hole system and I think I will need a new gauge (again)

So now I'm back at Square one! Can anyone recommend a place in christchurch / lymington / poole area who will be able to sort me out a sender and gauge that will work(I know they aren't the most accurate of things anyhow!)

I did think of buying a garnin fuel sensor but as I understand these are only good if you remember to tell it when you fill up!

I have the 5 hole type system on the top of my tank that's 22inches /558mm deep, I was thinking a 500mm sender would probably do it that will give me 8mm of reserve fuel or would you say go for a 450mm?

Nothing is ever simple in this ribbing world!

RIBase
Is it a fuel sender with the thin gauge arm?

You can shorten them by bending them a couple of times.

WEMA are in Poole, on the Dawkins Road Ind Estate, about 5 mins from Cobbs Quay. They do a 5 hole adapter plate for their 1 1/4" BSP sender unit, and a gauge to match.
