Insurance
I have done some investigation and have found a company called Porthcawl Insurance Stephen Knipe, I have left a reply on ribsters. He also used to race zapcat, so he should be able to help out.
Hi John, you know me as Joe, a friend of Derek and previously helped set up Olmec. A beer would be good ...

Hi all,
Things are indeed happening. Plans are in their infancy but we hope to have a production race for ribs in the Solent on the weekend of 13th/14th August.
Classes etc are yet to be finalised, but I am pleased to report that the RYA have been very supportive with insurance, logistics & safety etc.
So, if you fancy paying an entrance fee & having a go please let me know. All are welcome
Bogi & I aim to put together an enjoyable day where you can have a race & a lot of fun.
More details to follow...
Regards.
Ian

Not the best timing for me as RMYC are running a National race at Poole the same weekend - which is where I will be.

That's a shame Adam. We feared that the dates would clash with some of the "proper" racers out there. Good luck with your race anyway, are you taking the cat? If so, let me know if you need a few race miles on the new rib
Cheers.
Ian.

Sounds great - can you email me details on price and what size rib and engine you except - will put it on our calendar - some of our guys have bigger ribs than just our 4m we race, although i have a 4m humber with a 40hp but dont think it will go that far........ he he!! fiona@m2mracing.com
Hint - speak to Gill at Drivers Wharf, she has a load of guys who have RIBS there.
Info: If you wish to ever go round the isle of wight, the best kept secret for a stop off is Ventnor, they have a small harbour there and a fantastic Harbour Master called Shaun plus very good drinking holes - Spy Glass and Mill Bank on the sea front and just further up the hill is the Winter Gardens, the restaurant is run by Caroline who also runs the Cafe near Yarmouth. Stoker on-line knows all the details.

Just read through the very long thread on ribsters about this.....
Is there anyway people with smaller RIBs could get involved; there are loads of sub-fivers on here, and if some sort of "weighting" system was used to give people a more level playing field it could work quite well.

The only thing for RIBs your size at the moment would be Poker runs, although there is a minimum speed, not sure what that is, but have a look at the one Drivers Wharf are doing, the details are on Boatmad.com. The only RYA RIB racing is for 200hp boats, and it would have to be longer than yours as well!
Sorry not to give you more positive news, but Poker runs are a great way of seeing a wide variety of boats in a non competitive atmosphere.
