That shouldn't be an issue then....have you been in touch with customer services?
I know you've not used them much

Their current ebay ads say 'Condition:New with defects' and 'These helmets sold by us on ebay are old stock which are in clearance or have minor blemishes.'

ebay's definition of the description 'New with defects. A brand-new, unused and unworn item with some kind of defect. Possible cosmetic imperfections range from natural colour variations to scuffs, cuts or nicks, and hanging threads or missing buttons that occasionally occur during the manufacturing or delivery process. Apparel may contain irregular or mismarked size tags. Item may be missing its original retail packaging materials (such as original box or bag). New factory seconds and/or new irregular items may fall into this category. The original tags may or may not be attached. See seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.'

If your ad said the same then the description is accurate - it has some kind of defects.
If it said'only has a mark on the top' then you MIGHT have grounds for return as misdescribed.

Worth calling them, you never know!

I sent them back for new studs fitting and they won't touch them as the gel coat is cracked. All they would do is give me some studs to have a go myself or sell me 2 more 😯

Not fussed about the defects it's the studs that's the issue

That would seem the case...like so many others these days
As to being "seconds" minor cosmetic defects don't (or shouldn't) make any difference,if there are any material defects that effect performance..or in anyway make them unfit for purpose, they should NOT be for sale in the first place!..and Ghecko should either upgrade thier manufacturing process...or take the Hit! Instead of palming then off to the General public and them abdicating all responsibility to repair defects...or warranty issues.

I'd be interested to know what alternatives there are for Our type of Boating?.....and the experience of forum members

Surely if you buy stuff that is not new and original, cheap off eBay, it's a punt and may end in a false economy.

I wouldn't expect them to offer any more service than they have. Put yourself in their position!!

If you're that fussed, buy new and you can expect standards.

We're in the EU!!...(for the moment anyway!!)
Where IS ALL the Famous consumer protection!..
Seems to me shoddy after sales service at best!!...when a Company won't back up the products they've Made... Chosen to sell..and Earnt profit from...I suggest you READ THE ADVERT HP.
Also a little short sighted in the relatively small and close knit society that the Boating fraternity is.

I bought a tumble drier new from a national chain that burns your house down! They didn't have to exchange it for free unless under a year old.

Consumer protection my behind! LOL

Just take it on the chin, you bought a product cheaper than it retails at, from an in internet based auction site. How much protection do you think you should have?!!

Eyes wide open or shut? Your call. It's a big wide world out there

I take your point re small community, that said, they have little competition. Even second hand the Gheckos go quickly.

For most people on here: http://www.seawolfkayak.com/wp-conte...0/11/ORSSS.jpg

However I'm a recent convert to the Gecko helmet - simply for spray protection to keep little people and wives happy! (Mrs P was even more cynical than me - but is now a 100% convert). I'm sceptical about their helmet performance. If you want something similar then:

https://www.gathsports.com/products.php?cat=7

or Kask do some nice stuff with visors - not sure if they are "recognised" for water use though (as I understand it the Gecko is designed to come off if you hit the water at speed and it tries to rip your head off)

A typical customer is probably buying 10's or even 100's of them (think MOD, Police, RNLI etc). We are an inconvenience, and I suspect much more "budget" conscious. Probably most of them just replace when a defect happens as its not worth the paperwork effort to put in a warranty claim. Same reason Delta don't sell to public.

were the hats sold with a disclaimer then slight defects not fit for purpose or fit for purpose with a warranty, after warranty studs/gel-coat would be down to wear & tear.

That's basically what he told me companies are buying 400 a time
My point with him was I offered to pay for the studs fitting £9 a helmet no issue there at all
But because the gel coat is cracked they won't do it as its faulty and might break more like one of them had done already
The stud has pulled through the helmet taking the visor off its that thin
I just think it's a poor show on there part for the price of them as well
If it was musto or Gul they would have it sorted no problem
