Aren't Ribeye boats now built in SA?

You can argue numbers, but surely the location helped. If not, why choose RC, price?

Re-sale value as well.

A factor for sure, but perhaps, not so high on the tick list.

Chewy, I do hope that you're not casting nasturtiums on the the resale values of Ribeyes. You'll summon something from Beyond the Veil

Yeah I'd forgotten Ribeye's were part (?) built elsewhere - although with the "ecconomic benefit" still in the UK any arguments about using a british supplier are probably not that significant.

I'd imagine that they assess not only the value for money (i.e. price and ability to offload them afterwards) but also the quality of the overall operation i.e. the liklihood that if the vendor says he'll deliver X boats on Y date built correctly that he actually will. Of course we don't know if any of the others were even interested - they may have seen it as an exciting win for a years work that generates a huge headache for probably tightly squeezed margins.

Do we know whether these boats are being purchased or leased?

Are they buying them or leasing them? I thought I say someone here suggest a while ago that they might be on some sort of buy back deal.

Before the ecconomic bubble burst I could easily have imagined one of the finance houses bank rolling it for a year long lease.

Not Osprey!! Mikey One Barn would've been in a right lather and there would've been nuts and bolts flying about all over Wolverhampton.

To not sell them would be a brave shout. Being Ribcraft aside, these things are so bespoke, the re-sale market becomes very narrow.

Very few of the Protectors from the last Olympics were suitable for general use, most were under-powered. Twin 130 Hondas, where 250 Verados should be.

Should be good news for all involved. Am I right in understanding that LOCOG asked for all boats to be unbranded?

Not sure of the arrangements between Ribcraft and Southampton Boat Show, but the 'Show Patrol' RC4.8s get sold on by Ribcraft at the end of each year's show, obviously on a much smaller scale than 2012 Olympics!

Either way.. I for one think it's a REAL COUP for a local company to come out on top! I'm sure if they had'nt demonstrated thier overall Product-Bid to be better than the rest we'd now be talking about another manufacturer! To have thier products on show to a truley GLOBAL audiance for them[And the British economy] can only be a good thing. As for buisness accument... IMO you dont become an internationaly recognised quality brand and one of the market leaders by chance.

Do you think that if you say enough nice stuff about them then you'll end up being on some sort of "commission" like Willk There's no doubt that they have a good product, and whichever company won the deal was going to have to put together a compelling case, not just on product but the total package. If its true that they will be brand anonymous then actually being on show to the whole world is not that big a marketing triumph (and only really sad RIB geeks are watching the sailing / windsurfing etc and focussing on the safety etc. boats anyway). I'm not sure anyone at RC would consider themselves an "international market leader" - outside the UK (and a small US operation) they are really only known to the specialist end of the market. Lets face it half the general boating world still call them "Zodiacs" regardless of who built it.

Aint that so .. when some brand gets a big market share due to dominance either by being first, good, or spending a ton on marketing .. all others get known as 'it' .... JCB being a prime example ..
