Got myself a searider

So, after 3 years maintaining and running a fleet of 8 SR5.4s at a large sailing club, I’ve finally got my own. Needless to say I’m thrilled

2004 build, no patches on the tubes, under seat stainless tank, and generally in pretty good nick. Also got a mint Yamaha 90 CETO 2 stroke to go on it. Should go quite well

With the club fleet being set up very different (Note: more basic and only 50hp) I have a couple of questions

1. What would be a rough estimate for top speed with a 90?
2. Recommendations for led Nav lights (which do RC use?)

I also have a friend recommending a stainless propeller. What are the benefits to this, and is a stainless prop worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.

90 is within the boats rating and is a common setup in the military, dive boats and commercial users.

Are you sure you’re not thinking of a SR4? Max rating 50? This is an SR5.4, max rating 90.

This is a bigger boat than yours, and you have a 75!

depends on setup, prop, engine height, 35-39 maybe 40 - tide running etc - I have a 90aeto on my 5.4, messsed around with 19" k serie-s alloy, 20 "laser 2 stainless props - I have a heavier console and whacking great a frame - seen 38knots on raymarine gps at slack water

Depends on the prop and whether it can pull max rpm.

Yamaha 90hp (>84)
Gear Ratio 2:1
WoT range 4500-5500 rpm
Assumed 10% slip

Pitch/Speed (knots)
15" = 30.6
16" = 32.6
17" = 34.6
18" = 36.6
19" = 38.7
20" = 40.7

My old 5.4 with a 90hp 2 stroke Mariner made 39.7knots with a 20" Laser II propeller. We couldn't quite make the magic 40!
(I think it would have gone faster with the engine raised a little but sold it before experimenting)

Nice boat - I keep looking at 5.4's and 4.7's.

I'd recommend the Hella Marine NaviLED lights. They are not the cheapest but they use no power and are almost fit and forget. I don't know what Ribcraft fit.

Despite the older design, I still love the searider. Did many rescue duties in a 4m and 5m back in the day and they could take anything we threw at them. Never once felt unsafe in one, even with some proper snotty condition rescues occasionally.
