got our Olympic rib!

Went to the Ribcraft factory to collect our 'new' (ex olympic)585 last Saturday !
Launched on Sunday and very pleased, its quite a step up from our existing club rib.
It will join our small fleet of 'motor boats.
(not supposed to call them rescue boats)' at Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club. A dinghy and catamaran racing club.
Ribcraft were excellent, we had a tour of the factory and left pleased that we had invested in a Ribcraft, particularly as it has a Suzuki on the back.
Looking forward to fitting it out for our needs, tools, spares safety stuff.
Its my job to make a console cover for it!(Upholsterer!)

Gary

Yes, we get that as well. Safety boats they're called now. Tsk.

If our Ribcraft 4.85 is anything to go by, your new 5.85 should make a really nice open meeting boat. A flexible working platform with space for a whole course-full of big inflatable buoys, I should imagine .

Good luck with your purchase, please be careful with the tow post.
This was a tow about 30deg from due astern on one of the 5.85 we used during the olympics to get a snagged anchor up. We had hardly reached 1/4 throttle and this happened.
Other than that they are nice boats.

Yes thanks James, we have been warned by Ribcraft about the towing post! Nice idea but not much good obviously! I can see that being removed I think.

As you can see from my first photo, they were mainly used for the VHF Aerial and flying the event flags.

Basically they are too tall and the supports in the wrong direction, we stopped using them to tow after this mainly used for attaching buoys and tying up. The posts on the full time mark boats were much lower and stronger. the majority of the 5.85 were judge, measurer etc.
The tow posts on the protectors where much better so we just called in the supersubs driving those to haul up the fouled anchors, the Nothe is full of stuff to get snagged on.
