Don't know if this exists still, but how about doing something thoroughly stupid in say June - stupider than getting stuck on Ryde Sands!

Don't know - but how about the largest number of ribs ever gathered in one small place - say Yarmouth Harbour!!!

Or some such.

Face it, I am never going to get in the record books for being fastest under 30 foot around the uk - nor are most of us. But as one of 100 ribs decending on the hapless harbourmaster?????

Madness, pure fun, and let us get sponsored for some charity?

As long as they don't charge us for the privilege of having photos of our own boats. Because if they do I'll be charging the next person who does that for the privilege of taking photos of me..........................................

Talking of charity I am a volunteer fundraiser for the 'Lively Lady Project' Which is sailing disadvantaged youngsters around the world in Sir Alec Roses boat lively lady

But we are holding a charity race night at fernham hall in fareham.

Each table holds 10 people and if each person pays £15 you not only get a great night out, fed ( basket meal) but also one of the races named after the group. The RIBNET race
8th March 2007

We could make a difference to these youngsters, have a great time, but also a chance to discuss this recordbreaking idea too

Who's up for it ???

Have I misunderstood what you mean? If people want cool aerial photos of their boats, why shouldn't they expect to pay for them? Are you suggesting that a professional photographer charters a helicopter, spends a day taking th photos, then gives them away?

Agreed, I am very willing to pay for Aerial photos of my boat... looking at some of the ones over on boatmad, they are really good!

It may be worth mentioning to one of the RIB magazines that there is an event planned... see if they could cover it... which would help with getting the helicopter there

great idea! great press for ribnet and ribs in general. Might even go some way to persuade the sailing faturnity that us ribbers are not such a bad lot.

got to go down the charity route though.

That's how it reads to me as well. I reckon they're all in for a bit of a shock, as the photo's for the Boatmad poker run cost between £30 and £80 each, depending on size, and that didn't include the hire costs for both the photographer and helicopter with pilot, as these were paid for by Motor Boat and Yachting, for a forthcoming article!

could sort that out, as i fly Robinson R44 and R22 out of Bristol, we regulary go to Bembridge , will get my mate to do it as i will want to be in the line up!!

Hire of a chopper and pilot is about £400-600 per hour I think and then a commission for a photographer for a day's work is between £200 and maybe £350, which often doesn't include expenses. You don't only pay for the photographers time on the day, but the hours and hours of post processing, insurance, expensive equipment etc. etc. Obviously for charity its slightly different, I'd do it for free...in fact i'd probably do it for free anyway

The problem that we encountered was that as the photo's were to be sold on by the photographer, the heli pilot had to have a commercial licence. The other problem for the solent was that there is some sort of minimum height restriction that a Robinson can be flown at.

purchase a sled kite, and then suspend your camera underneath it. fair enough, it might cause a bit of drag in apparent winds created by a moving rib but...can set one up on land, or when it gets too much of a pain, just pull it in

i like the idea of photos, unfortunatly i do not have the funds to finance a professional photographer.

helecopter idea would be ideal but for the 500ft rule, the pilot would have to be commercially rated to accept reward.

why not find some mug (photographer) to hang of the bottom of a parachute parasending of the back of a rib..
its legal and cheap..

im crap with a camera but i would give it a go..
