Halmatic Pacific 22 - Tickler

In October 2015 I bought a pretty bog standard Pacific 22. It was in good condition for its twenty four years. I spent a a year predominantly in the Solent but we also took it up to the Outer Hebrides where I bumped into Pikey Dave. The Outer Hebrides was the reason that I chose a diesel RIB and actually underpins most of my decisions when it comes to buying stuff.

The Mermaid Turbo 4 was a big old lump and took a bit to start. I also needed to be retrieved from the Solent by Sea Start when the bolts in the end of the heat exchanger vibrated loose and caused it to overheat. Adding Loctite to the bolts and changing the oil seemed to fix it. On one lumpy Solent trip the suicide seat that was forward of the console made a bid for freedom by going through the quite soft deck. I fitted a patch and away we went but it needed a bit of TLC.

'Fortunately' my garage is just long enough to accommodate a Pac 22 without tubes. I say fortunately but it would have been much quicker and cheaper to have bought a different RIB.

At the end of 2016, it went into my garage. It was meant to be a bit of a refurb but it didn't turn out like that.

On Thursday afternoon she was launched and I took her for a slightly nervous trip up Southampton Water whilst listening for sounds of impending doom. With that successfully achieved I took the kids out on Friday and we had a nice trip across to Cowes and then to Bucklers Hard.

I'll do a write up of the refit and if anyone has got any tips on how best to do it on Ribnet, it would be appreciated.

Hopefully you'll be able to tell which are the before and after pictures.

Looks great, please tell us more and post some more photos.

I know what that first trip out is like. After all the work I did I only used mine twice last year. Hopefully much more this year. (Got to get more value from the insurance if nothing else).

Hope to see you out there.

Looking good Guy. Looking forward to the write up. Knowing the vagaries of the forum, I’d do the write up offline in Notepad or Word & copy and paste it into the forum when it’s polished. Choose the photos & stick them into a separate folder & keep it all together.

Well done you - I hit the water yesterday for the first time in 18 months - always a sweet moment. Re the write up - I sometimes found that the well-meaning but occasionally overly abundant comments took something away from the flow of a series of posts with photos. Perhaps PM Poly and see if he would be OK to let you "assemble" your thread in the For Sale forum before moving it out into the public domain for further discussion - easier for future readers that way. And sort your sideways photos

^ Yeah, what he said too. I wrote each post in "rich text format" in Notepad, named the photos and then bunged them on RIBnet when I was happy.
