I'm fairly convinced that the famous Gillespie (N'ae Bother!) brothers have. Chris Kaye went to Iceland so maybe he went via Shetlands as well.

Alan talking about Iceland

I have always/do fancy a trip over their at some pont in the future, does anyone else ?.

Know it would be a long trip that would need planning and would need a few legs, but thinks it possible if done right.

So to ask the question would anyone else fancy getting toghther to plan and do a trip either next year or the year after to Iceland ?.

And to keep Keith happy we could stop in at the Shetlands

Regards Gary

Keith - yes.

Gary - Chris Kaye did it at the third attempt some years ago. I am planning something similar and he has kindly lent me his charts.

Hmm.

Orkney, Fair Isle, Faroes, Iceland.

Interesting.

Is this a practical journey?

Hi folks

Not sure about the practice, dont plan to try and top a trip to Iceland. (well not for a while anyway) However I really fancy it.

Allen does this mean you have planning underway ?.

If so are you looking for other RIBS to join you, how far are you into things and when was you thinking.

Our RIBS are similar mine being a 7.8 Ribcraft 240Hp Yanmar.
Usually cruise at about 25Kts in reasonable conditions.

Anway see if anyone else is interested, but of you looking for others I am very interested.

Regards Gary

Keith - No, not in a SIB, and most definately not a convoy! Well not with me anyway

If you're going to the Faroes you don't want to go there from Fair Isle and unless you want to go to the Shetlands or the Orkneys for some other reason, there's no point in going there either. Kinlochbervie is a convenient place to set off from.

Gary - yes plans are quite well advanced. We had planned to reach the Faroes this summer but due to family committments etc this didn't actually happen, but should next year.

We have two boats making the trip - my own and an 8.5m Delta. Further company would not be a problem but we have to carefully consider this. We have a seriously long open water leg to reach the Faroes so we have to be certain of eachothers capabilities etc. I wouldn't like to meet you for the first time as we set off!

Send me a PM if you'd like to take this further.

Allen
