£8.00 for a short stay, that must be the most expensive in the solent, and they wonder why the lightship struggles

Ruddy Hell! Used to be less than half this amount.

Is a short stay less than 4 hours?

I guess you were jumped on as you arrived by a student working the weekend for the marina, We probably need to talk to the guys who run the lightship as they have an interest in keeping us coming over for snacks and drinks as well as food. At those charges which dont take boat length as a starter or a lesser price for a half hour drink stop the marina will also loose out. Jimbo operates from Haslar so perhaps he can spread some light of these charges for us.

I think I'd have left rather than pay that. It's taking the micky.

Might well be worth phoning the marina and asking them outright. Could be that the person collecting the dues was pocketing the difference!

What make me laugh is that they are charging rent for the owners of the Restaurant bussiness on the Light Ship and then charge such high prices for the short stay that people are acually staying away.

It's a double whammy for the Restaurant owners after such a difficult time though the winter.

It all sucks really.

All the staff that collect the cash work there all the time - they're not seasonal staff who might be inclined to "pocket the difference" in my opinion. If you have an issue with the amount they charge (which is the same as Gunwharf) why not give the lightship or the marina a call?

Well that's what I will do! I'm not saying it's not worth it for a larger craft, just the charging system is all wrong. I'm already paying £6 for a days car parking to the marina. Should be 50p/M for 4 hours IMHO. I'll suggest that perhaps Lightship customers can get a concession for berthing or bring in a 1 hour mooring fee.

I'll canvass this suggestion to the people that run the Lightship.

Did anyone have any joy with contacting the marina / the Lightship about this?

I'm planning on having a cruise round Portsmouth tomorrow and figured the Lightship would be a good place for a coffee stop?

Cheers

Chris

They charge it because they can. Seems they must be making enough from visiting yachts that smaller vessels can effectively 'like it or lump it'.
