Haslar Marina closed over Easter

Fury over 'bomb scare' marina closure

Part of Haslar Marina in Gosport will be closed off for three days from 10-13 April from 0600 until 1800 while searches are made of HMS Blockhouse by UXB experts. A 272m diameter exclusion zone will be centred over Haslar Creek and affect about three pontoons of the marina directly as well as cutting off others who would need to go through the zone to get in or out.

Oops, guess the slipway and access to the sea is out then?

Lee on Solent Airfield was also closed a few years ago - it turned into months of faffing around ( all caused by the coastguard but dont me started) . Hopefully they dont find anything otherwise it'll be more closures .

"Berth holders have been served with MOD warnings saying that although it is expected no bombs are actually still stored in HMS Blockhouse, no paperwork exists which confirms this and so an examination of the site needs to be made."

I wonder why it needs to be done over the Easter holidays - maybe all the Easter bunnies jumping around could set them off.................

Yep - been there for how long & suddenly only now they become a H&S risk ( as they have appeared on a list . On this basis a lot of England could be closed for the weekend as it was bombed senseless in the war - alot of which are still sat 10 foot down doing not much !

At least anyone with their boat thier can get it out ( hopefully ) before hand. I suspect no sign of money back from the fees though ............

The cynic in me asks why the MOD are doing this now?

Has the Gov & MOD run out of money? are they looking to sell off Fort Blockhouse and the hospital in due course? How much money would those sites make with posh penthouse flats over looking Haslar Creek or the Solent

This has just made my day, SWMBO had tasked me to digging the garden but as she has no paperwork to confirm the absence of UXB, I may have an "out" as I do have a chart confirming safe water to the North of Ireland - may just go plough a furrow there instead....
